Why would "lazy eye" be specifically added to the production paint apps? Both my Luke and Anakin figures have straight eye lines so why would production Maul be any different?

I'm not too worried about the eye alignment on this figure. That's something that they should have already noticed, or are certainly aware of now, and can be particularly vigilante on with final paint operations.

I do have one nit to pick with the sculpt, but I'm going to leave that complaint alone for now. It's a secret :) This is shaping up to be an excellent figure, and I'm quite pleased overall.

Why would Anakin's lipstick, eyeliner and dark colored hair be added to production paint apps? They weren't. It was something done by the factory that Sideshow was not happy with.

This is a prototype painted by Sideshow. By now they are surely aware of the error and will correct it before it goes into production. I don't think they would intentionally mass produce such an error but there is still room for lots of factory error though!

Because the production facilities made a mistake unrelated to the prototype and, consequently, the concern over how Maul's eyes will turn out.

its not in the paint, its in the sculpt.
They definitely are slightly off, but not near as bad as it appears. The pic attached show that almost everything lines up. Its the "tilt" of the eyes. the inner corners are whats off slightly. ones low, ones high. Personally I cant believe how much this miniscule difference stands out.
but in its defense MANY people have one eye lower than the other. Shannon Dougherty being one of the worst cases.

but overall, I think it rocks! very cool figure

Looking great!

Anyway likely that Sideshow would surprise us with Maul's entire body painted in black/red tattoos? Maul has been depicted topless in comics and his body tattoos look awesome... even more awesome with Triad's new life-like bodies...

Well this toy will certainly be able to beat up all my other ones.
Except Obi-Wan.:D
Looks great, can't wait. It will be a tad strange not having to rush to a computer at a certain time on a certain day now, but I'm sure I'll get over it.

I just watched TPM last night (the Maul parts anyway) and MAUL is the same height as Palpatine... see the scene with them on Coruscant.

Luke is about the height of the Emperor, right? So if the SS Maul is the same body as Luke's, it should be virtually accurate height-wise.

I'm more concerned with the arms -- I hope SS can make whatever adjustment is needed by the time we get our Maul in November/December.

Suggest to Sideshow... quick, quick!!! :D

BTW, Sideshow previously included a tattoo to Angel's back from the Buffy line... now how often does anyone display Angel bare-back...?

Couldn't agree with you more Wor-Gar, Maul Doll is not Tall at All nor should it be, and the arms, well SSC knows what they have to do well in advance.

They didn't know that about Luke? Nobody on their entire staff realized Luke's arms were a problem? Believe me, they did. They also knew we would all buy the figure anyway, just like they know we'll all buy Maul, long arms or not. If it saves them money to leave it be then I think they will for as long as possible.

Of course I so want to be wrong, but I'm a cynical bastard who's almost always right, so how can I change? :lol

Hopefully they will fix known problems, as they are apparently doing with Obi-Wan. You're right that its probably a cost thing -- is it too costly to fix the short body? It may be. But it would certainly benefit them in the long run. Here's to hoping...
