Since we are talking about Vader, too bad it is quite expensive to get a Sebastian Shaw's autograph. But it is always easy to get Dave Prowse and James Earl Jones. My autograph collection

Well it makes sense, Jones and Prowse are alive, Shaw's been dead for years, probably didn't sign much in the first place, so things that are signed are rare and pricey.

My guess is visuals and voice. I've never heard Prowse talk, but maybe it wasn't right for the role and easier to cast someone than record dialogue to place over it, I'm sure that technology was crude in those days. I think Shaw's face has a softer, more innocent look to it, Prowse would have almost looked a bit scary, and I'm sure that was part too, to have Anakin's portrait be an opposing visual to Vader's look, to add impact to the reveal. If you pulled that mask back and the face you saw was almost as freaky as Vader's mask, it wouldn't have been as emotional, but to pull the mask away and see this innocent, wounded, tortured face relieved at seeing his son, much more powerful.

Well, obviously Prowse has a different accent (British, but pretty different from the quasi-British used by James Earl Jones) so if they did use him they would've probably had to dub it. He also doesn't appear to be the greatest actor (see video below), which might have something to do with it.

And he may not have been what Lucas wanted Vader to actually look like, even with prosthetics.

Oops yeah he is. Born in Bristol. I was thinking he was Scottish based on what someone said in a SW documentary (Hamill?) about him being Scottish. :dunno
