Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

From Wiki (so it has to be true :monkey3):

The 1994 graphic novel Mad Love recounts the character's origin describes Dr. Harleen Francis Quinzel, M.D. as an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who falls for the Joker and becomes his accomplice and on-off sidekick. She becomes fascinated with the Joker while interning at Arkham, and volunteers to analyze him. She falls hopelessly in love nearly instantly with the Joker during their sessions, and she helps him escape from the asylum more than once. When the Joker is returned to Arkham after a battle with Batman, the sight of her badly injured patient drives Harleen insane, leading her to quit her psychiatrist job and don a jester costume to become Harley Quinn, the Joker's sidekick. She later becomes fast friends with Poison Ivy, who injects her with an antitoxin which gives her super-human strength, agility, and immunity to toxins.

Anyways, this is a whole new universe...so they can give her the origin they want. Just make an awesome movie...which this looks like it will be :rock

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Everyone is ragging on Jared Leto. He gets more support from me than that stupid kid on the Gotham TV show (which I think jumped the shark in the final few episodes of season one). I think the director intends the showpiece performance to be Margot Robbie, not Leto.

Speaking of which, there is a picture where Harley is strapped onto the table and joker has his hands around her head, and Harley is in her pre-crazy psychiatrist phase. The heavy implication is that Joker tortures Harley into submission?? I don't get that. I thought Harley developed a twisted obsession with the joker while he was in Arkham asylum. It seems that Harley may be portrayed as a victim....which i think doesn't fit. If they portray Harley is a victim, there is probably going to be a suggestion of rape some where in the move. (But Joker won't be the perpetrator).

In defense of this new DC universe (including MOS) is that they are not afraid to "go there". Some of these Marvel and 20th century Fox movies are playing it so safe there might as well be training wheels on the movie.

How has Fox been playing it safe?

They're making an R rated Deadpool movie.

Yea I'm actually looking forward to that one. But remember Fox had ZERO confidence in a deadpool movie. Only after fans bent their arms behind there back did they finally give in. And even while the film was in production, Fox tried to make deadpool a PG-13 movie, but they eventually allowed it to be rated R. And the budget they afforded the deadpool movie is MUCH smaller than their standard xmen movies. Left to their own devices, they would not have touched a rated R deadpool movie with a ten foot pole. Fox is not exactly a bastion of artistic creativity. They just begrudgingly footed the bill.

Left to their own devices you know what Fox would make? A crappy fantastic four reboot. They screwed it up once, but apparently they want to cash in again by making The Dark Knight minus the batman, minus the nolan, and minus the joker.

But I won't rag on you for liking Days of future past. (i assume that based on your quicksilver sig). I liked that movie too.

How do you already know that their F4 movies is crappy? And you don't think the direction they're taking the F4 in is risky? I'm sure they knew switching up the ethnicity of Johnny Storm wouldn't sit well with the fans, yet they seem confident enough in the movie and the director/cast that they didn't cancel and let the rights go back to Marvel. If they were interested in just making crap to keep the rights, why didn't they do that with Daredevil? Another question I have is, how do we know they weren't behind the leak for Deadpool to gauge fan interest and build hype for the movie? Ryan Reynolds' playful tone almost seemed to confirm they were behind the leak when he brought it up at comic con.

I honestly think Marvel has also taken major risks, one of them being Guardians of the Galaxy, and their cinematic universe in general. Sure, I hate most of the movies they make, but when you look at the bigger picture, it's pretty impressive to see what they've done, and how consistent they've been with their movies and television shows, all existing in one world, all the steps they took to get to the Avengers was a risk in my opinion.

The 'I'm not gonna kill ya' sounds slightly Ledgerish. Not much.

But that's just because it's a gruff voice. The 'really really bad' is unique and his own.

The laugh itself, which is utmost important, is excellent and fresh.
