Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Doesn't mean Gosling would have played the character like that. He will be played as written and directed. :dunno

Of course, but to me, Gosling does a better job of disappearing into his role. Will Smith is Will Smith. In just about every role I've seen him in, his wisecracking goofball personality shows up. It's annoying as hell for me personally.

Look, in the end, it doesn't matter. Smith is DS in this movie. I'd have preferred Gosling but that's not going to happen. If Smith nails the role, I'll be the first to come here and say he was great. Until this movie comes out though, color me skeptical.

I thought Smith did a perfect job emulating Ali, I'm not sure if Gosling has given a better performance than that.

He did. I'll give credit where it's due. That was a great performance. It's really one of the VERY few movies I actually enjoyed with him in it. As far as Gosling is concerned, I LOVED his performance in Drive. His coldness and capacity for violence in that movie had me thinking he'd be the perfect fit for Deadshot. Again, it's just a personal preference. I'm not a big Will Smith fan.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Gosling has that same quiet, monotone, almost pseudo-intellectual acting style in every one of his roles. I don't dislike him, and I don't think he's a bad actor, but he's definitely overrated and it's as if he's too shy to come out of his shell and really ACT.

Will Smith plays the same character in almost every movie. But he CAN play different characters, and very well. He's like Johnny Depp. I think they choose to play the same character over and over, but in those rare situations when they're thrown into a completely different role, they absolutely nail it.

That's the difference between Smith and Gosling based on what I've seen. Gosling has played characters with vastly different personalities but they still feel exactly the same.

So, basically, I feel like Gosling can't rewire his personality for a specific role like Smith/Depp can.

I like both guys. I do think Will Smith has been more concerned with a paycheck than his legacy as an actor but when he commits, he can be great. I like Gosling a lot too, I thought he was good in Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines.

I don't know much about DeadShot other then the little bit I've seen of him in cartoons, animations and video games, so I can't say who I think would be more appropriate.

Who is Gosling?

Was he in Raiders, Jaws, Die Hard, Terminator, Predator, Aliens, Conan, 89 Batman, STM, Road Warrior?

I also think Gosling is a bit overrated, and certainly not so great that any given comic role should be reserved for him. But he's not a one trick pony. Look at Lars and the Real Girl.

Yea. Indy threw him out of a windshield, McClane dropped him down a elevator shaft, T-800 ripped his heart out, Predator and Alien tagged team him, Conan heard the lamentations of his woman, Batman scared him, Superman tossed him down a frozen chasm, and Max took his petrol.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

My 2 cents on Gosling, Smith and Deadshot:

Smith: I do genuinely think that he's a good actor and he has range. It's just that he's probably in it mostly for th money, so he picks more "leading man" oriented roles. He does good in the rare occasions where he branches out, but they are the exception, rather than the rule.

Gosling: Gosling has this "melancholic" face, that even when he changes expressions, accents and whatnot, he still kinda looks the "same". But he still does a bang up job at every role I've seen him in. I don't think that he'd nail every role, comic book or not, but he certainly, IMHO, has more range than Smith.

Deadshot: I've not read the entirety of the classic SS vol yet, but it's still miles and miles ahead of the current version. The current vol is atrocious and in no way reaches the heights of the classic era. There, Lawton was a sarcastic, nihilistic ******* with a death wish who truly cares for his daughter. He wasn't a psycho or a guy who enjoyed violence, but he was good at his job and he knew it.
Current Deadshot is your classic "tortured badass" so Smith's better suited for that. Bottom line is that while Gosling would have been better as classic Floyd, Smith is the best choice for the "action hero".

A better question than who watches weird **** is--who wants to watch normal ****?

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Yeah, I would much rather watch Avengers and Transformers 12 times a day.

I'd say that was most likely more to do with Michael Mann than Will Smith.

Does that snooty lady look like she watches Avengers and Transformers. :tap

Look into the mirror and wave. :wave
