Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

That's my take. But I wasn't counting the seconds people were onscreen or reading about deleted scenes ahead of time to properly lament their absence.

As usual...

I was too busy enjoying the movie to do that crap! :lol

Finally saw this movie tonight.

Some quick thoughts...

Did I enjoy it: Yes!

Would I happily watch it again: Yes.

Overall score - 7.5/10.

This movie has officially been Goosed! :yess: :lol

Also glad to see that the majority of Freaks weighing in have positive reactions and aren't being swayed by the complaints of a couple millennial Trank/Nolanites. :monkey3

I thought casting was spot on . Jesus Christ was Viola Davis perfect as Amanda Waller

Now, the only nitpicking I'll do was I did not like was the Joker promotion in relation to his role . I get it, you can't introduce Harley without Mister J, but based how he was featured in everything, you expected more time ...

Cool Cameos, great casting, so so story ...7.5/10

Way way better than batman v superman (theatrical release)

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I give it a 6/10. Dumb, clumsy, and clearly the product of studio interference... but fun nevertheless. An enjoyable way to kill two hours, which is a much better review than I thought I'd give it.

And miles better than BVS for that fun factor alone. DC and WB have yet to figure out a formula that works for them (here's hoping the solo movies fare better than the ensemble stuff we've gotten so far), but they did take a baby step forward with Suicide Squad.

What brings it down for me, however, is that you can see the chunks of good material embedded in there. IMO, the film would've been much stronger with Joker as the main villain and Harley's plan to reunite as the central conflict. That way we could've explored more of their relationship and how it put them at odds with the rest of the crew. As for the squad, focus on Deadshot. Let him be the conduit through which the audience relates to the group as a whole.

TL;DR: Get the Enchantress/Rick Flag romance the hell out of there and use their screen time to explore the more iconic characters.

A note on Leto's performance. Honestly, all the hype surrounding his behavior on-set was likely just that. Hype. I seriously doubt he needed to "commit" to that extent for the performance he gave. His flavor lies somewhere between Ledger and a generic tough guy. Serviceable, but nothing special. Having that said, Joker was still way more interesting than the villain we ended up getting.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I was at a party today, and 3 teenage (18, 19 yo's) guests were talking about it, they said they loved it. A fourth dissenter joined in to say it was terrible and it was funny to see how angry the other 3 got.

Guess its finding it's audience despite bad reviews.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I absolutely loved it. By far my favorite DC movie in at least a decade. The movie moved quickly and was like a non stop roller coaster ride. To me it definitely didn't feel like it lagged like a Snyder or Nolan DC movie. I'm giving it a 9/10.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I'm blown away by the wide range of scores for this movie.

Yeah you can't even say it's polarizing because you don't just have people who love it on one side and people who hate it on the other.

For SS it's:

1. Loved it

2. Hated it

3. Didn't love it but damn a lot better than I thought it'd be

4. It sucked but I loved it anyway

:lol

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Just came back from second viewing, loved it even more. Definitely a huge mess, but I loved it. The 3d (I usually hate) looked great. Need the soundtrack now!!!! What is the song when Harley is in the elevator?

Also these actors all nailed the characters... most people I talked to say their favorite is katana and she barely even says a word. BRING ON THE SEQUAL

I ansolutely agree about the studio's struggle to figure out the formula and Leto's performance...

Can't help but feel like a lot of the #1s are closeted #4s. Every time I hear someone describe SS -- and especially BVS -- as "amazing" or "fantastic" or "brilliant," I gag.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I found the movie to be entertaining only because of how unbelievably bad it was. I just can't give this anything higher than a 3/10. There's so many problems from beginning to end.
