Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

This counted for a whole lot of something.

Yeah, well, thing is, this is his first appearance costume, from back when he wanted to be Gotham's new protector:

Hence why I said I liked the little nod to it.

How can you even judge if you haven't seen the flick yet? I thought Smith pulled the character off just fine.

I don't need to see the film, because I'm not judging his performance. I'm judging the way the character was tackled, and I'm expressing my distaste for the route they went. I'm not criticizing Smith for playing the role he was given, I'm criticizing the very role, and how off the mark it is.

Nope, go back and read the source material. Harley and Deadshot's relationship is borderline **** for free. Smith did a great job as the new 52's DS.

Except from the fact that us old-school folks are talking about the Deadshot that existed before the Nu52 mess. We're talking about the Deadshot in Ostander's Suicide Squad. We're talking about the Deadshot in Gail Simone's Secret Six. If you're familiar only with the Nu52 run of SS, or you just prefer it to the original, that's fine, but a whole lot of folks are dissapointed they chose that route, and essentially disregarded everything that made Deadshot a unique character.

from the first trailer they pretty much shoved in your face that this is the New 52 squad.

I've not seen SS in theaters yet to know how bad Deadshot is, but yeah, all of his defining characteristics seem gone. Eh, at least they referenced his FA costume in that scene with his daughter. That's gotta count for something... But the truth is, they got a very unique character and stripped him of the things that made him standout. Smith-Shot is pretty much Taskmaster personality wise.

you can't judge this without seeing the movie...

How's everyone's afternoon going?

Good here.

:)

Hi there.

:wave

Afternoon friends.

:wink1:

you can't judge this without seeing the movie...

So you're telling me that lines like "you jokers must be crazy", "let's go save the world" are not in the movie? You're telling me that he's not a relatively jokey guy, but he's actually a nihilist with a death wish? You're telling me there are allusions to his dark past? You're telling me he's a mopey douche? All of these things are intergal to Deadshot, thereby making him unique, but they're all missing. From the leaks and the trailers I know his personality is wildly different.

I don't see what the fuss is all about anyway. I voiced the same concerns when the first trailer hit, and now, according to everything people have told me, Smith-Shot is nothing like the original. And personally speaking, I don't like it. It's a preference. It's not about Smith's portrayal, it's about the way his role was written.

To be honest it's about 50/50

I thought he was half of that, especially earlier on in the film, and the other half is Will Smith carrying the movie with his charisma. Honestly if he was 100% how you described Deadshot to be, I don't think this movie would be watchable :lol

I know deadshot is cool and all in the original comics blah blah, but lets face it he is a c list villain nobody knows about outside of comic fans. He's the perfect character for an a list star to take over and become synonymous with. Is deadshot will smith, is will smith deadshot??? who cares he was a great and interesting character in the movie, and will smith carried the movie well with margot Robbie. I know it sucks for fans of him in the comics but hes still a perfect aim and a hitman who has it out for batman. That's pretty much all he needed to be in order to lead the squad and be deadshot.

Very well articulated.

Deadshot and his brother were manipulated by his mother into killing his abusive father. the result was that Floyd missed, killed his brother and his father escaped. Later down the line, his mother kidnapped his son, and in the end killed him. Deadshot is an extremely dark character, and in this mopey universe he's the one they decide to make all happy-go-lucky? I'm sorry, but I just don't like it.

I do. Plenty of others do. People bash on the MCU for being too jokey and apparently making everyone unrecognizable, but now DC changes a character so much he's virtually a different person, but they get a pass because he's a "c list villain"? I'm sorry, but that's complete bollocks. Deadshot was an interesting and unique character who got turned into your average, run of the mill "bad but not so bad" guy. For my money, he's not a good represantation, and that's it.

If the Punisher on the Netflix series would have been making jokes like Deadshot, fans would have lost their minds. Can you imagine the Punisher telling anyone that they were "gangsta"?

Punisher is a B-Lister. You can't change stuff with B-Listers, but from C-List and down, you're allowed to do whatever the **** you want... Oh, and, Marvel sux cause they're all making jokes or somethin'.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Will smith became a superstar with his "action comedy" chops and then slowly disappeared into different roles. 2016 is a great time for him to come back to his roots and lead the suicide squad, its really as simple as that. And he was great in the role or in this version of deadshot, whatever you want to say

They don't give a backstory to him but he really isn't happy go lucky throughout the movie. There are times he's serious and mopey even, and then there's times he's dropping great one liners. Will might not play him 100% mopey but thank god he didn't, he would have been too similar to Rick Flagg in this movie.
