Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I don't know comic Deadshot so I can't speak to how "wrong" the movie got him but I would definitely say he wasn't "happy-go-lucky" in the film. He does have a dry sense of humor but he's a far cry from the happy guys in ID4 or Men in Black. In fact I would even say that most of the time he uses humor in the film it's as passive aggressive sarcasm to indicate contempt for those around him.

His "oh you jokers did NOT just do this" line for instance was when he realized that they were giving him real weapons with live ammunition to demonstrate his prowess. He was basically saying "you know I can literally murder all of you mother*****rs right now don't you? Are you that freaking stupid!?" It's not like he was affectionately calling them jokers and then high fiving them or anything.

Even with the one-liners and one act of mercy I always got that he had an undercurrent of melancholy throughout the entire film.

Thankfully the movie sounds like it's better than GOTG.

Guardians was genuinely funny at times, had characters you could understand pretty well, it had heart, and perhaps most importantly, the narrative unfolded naturally and things didn't feel haphazardly re-arranged and tacked on at the last minute. That goes for the score as much as anything else. Suicide Squad was trying to be Guardians, with some Batman V Superman, Deadpool, the Care Bears, and a rap music video tossed into the soup all at once.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

still wouldn't make sense, the last time we'd see the two together is her refusing to go back, and stays with the team. then all of a sudden she's game to go the next time they see each other?

it's set up as if the breakout scene is right after the requests with Waller, which is about 10 minutes.

plus, this way the sequel is set up for the squad to get Harley back on the team and pursue joker as the main threat. it wouldn't make sense of both scenes were included, so it was one or the other.

That's why all the edits and cuts are there. To hide their original intentions of a battered woman relationship. Test audiences probably didn't like it, nor did WB/DC want to deal with the feminists if they accurately portrayed their relationship onscreen with the original animation as abusive. Woman must be strong, not weak when it comes to love. They gave them the two sided soul mate love story instead. You bought into it like they wanted, and to you it works. That's fine and shows to DC/WB the edits and cuts worked. To me and others it doesn't. If Joker loved Harley it would show weakness, to his enemies and even to his followers. He needs to be perceived as fearless and without remorse. So could Joker truly love Harley? Sure, but it would never manifest itself in actions, at least not within the view of others. If anything, he would make it seem to be he saves her for her unquestionable loyalty to him. To gain that same kind of devotion from all his underlings. And it doesn't look like to me she took of her puddin' necklace cause he was dead. If you had a locket/meaningful piece of jewelry your wife or girlfriend gave to you and they died, would you take it off and throw it away? Or keep it and cherish it? She was mad at him yet again. And again he came to rescue her in prison, I would say months later. Why would she want to stay in prison and wait? She's a bad guy, remember? She's not there to atone for her crimes because she developed a conscious...

Wh, fair enough, I'll wait a bit (damn release dates), but none of these lines indicate that this is classic Deadshot. If anything, he's Nu52 with some Pre-Flashpoint elements. The OG Deadshot rarely if ever made jokes, and more often than not, he was a relatively quiet guy.

Something tells me tha darthkostis is NOT going to be too pleased with the Deadshot deleted scene.

Eh, depends. I'm currently employed by Disney (ya know, ****posting, general disgust, the usual), but if WB comes at me with a better offer, I'm gonna be singing his praises, let me tell you that...

I agree with all that, yet I prefer SS because I like the DC characters more. :lol

It's pretty obvious WB changed the relationship and I like the film less because of it.

And I understand Khev's approach, as well. I think folks are getting a bit burned out with the Marvel Studios formula. And one thing is for sure--Suicide Squad ain't a Marvel Studios movie, for better or worse.

...and The Dirty Dozen, and Planet Terror, and Ghostbusters, and Kill Bill, and Escape from New York (AND L.A.), and, and, and...

Watching SS is basically like seeing a live-action movie based on the final poster:

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Hahaha, RedLetterMedia responds to the cellphone issue that their Suicide Squad review had!

If you don't understand, they basically made a slight mistake/oversight in their review for Suicide Squad for not knowing how Harley Quinn got her cellphone. This is also why they said the scene with the Joker and the Belle Reve guard served no purpose...when in reality the Joker got the guard to give Harley the phone when they were being transferred.

Man I love RedLetterMedia!!! :rotfl

Here's my take on all this MCU is generic crapola.

I don't go to a superhero movie to find the meaning of life.

I go to see bad ass superheroes and villains do cool stuff and beat each other up in glorious fashion, especially with what modern effects allows.

For me DC has given me that excitement in small doses.

Simply put, Winter Soldier and Civil War are like watching a 5 hour version of the BvS warehouse scene.

Almost the entire run time of TWS and CW is that warehouse scene from BvS.

So for me, it is DC who are not giving me what I want, not Marvel.

DC might not be generic, but they're certainly almost as boring as an X-Men movie.

Hopefully SS has some kick ass action, or at least some memorable endearing characters for me to latch onto.
