That was quick.

Pug eyebrows is a top search on google.
Yeah, looks like Leto Joker is the Twighlight Vampire guy 2.0. And you know what? I'm happy some folks are into that. Because it's been a couple of years now that they haven't had a character they could really get into on the big screen.
Great observation. And the fact that Twilight and TDK came out the same year solidifies my point even more. Back in the day people accepted a wide range of villains. But Ledger and Edward so imprinted on this one generation that every villain can only be looked at as representing either/or. If a new bad guy isn't exactly Heath Ledger then he's just another emo from Twilight. I'm so glad that I don't judge movie characters against such extremes. And I agree with YoNoSe that the lack of diverse and iconic villains coupled with the necessary hyperbole to stay relevant in the internet age seems to have made it very hard for those growing up in such an era to see things any other way.
I liked 3 of his scenes. The knife room scene, the kiss the ring scene, and the machine gun part. The pink car scene was cool, until Amanda Waller said, "Harley is crazier and more fearless than Joker"...I can't forget that
Good interview. Shaving the eyebrows was a good idea.
Sounds like you liked most of his scenes but ACE, I took that as Waller trying to win over her supreme.
yeah it was, it almost sounds like Ayer and Leto were looking at this for source material:
he's a mob boss, has the scars up the side of his face, his relationship with harley is closer to what we've seen in the films etc.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the Azarello Joker book, but is was an interesting "realistic" take on the character. I can see the modern "gangster" influence from that book with the Capullo style.
Magneto, Doc Ock, Kingpin, Red Skull, Galacticloud. I see a fair amount of variation myself. But not many superficially bad guys, who deep down are really just romantic saps. Leto Joker and presumably many Twilight type characters may be it. . .But the 00's and 2010's have diverse villains. Hell, Loki is the most popular Marvel villain, and he's far from a badass...yet people like him because he's likable...but still very evil. Even Bane is popular...and as badass as he was, by the end he showed a different side. Still people like him despite not being Ledger.
Television has also gotten better in quality and shows like Breaking Bad had great villains that people love.
Exactly. Very strange use of such a character. I personally hope that changes down the line. But box office receipts, and the comments on YouTube speak to another likely outcome here. Was leto joker a romantic sap?? I think its important to remember his place in the suicide squad movie is the love interest of a main character and nothing more.

brian azzarello's "joker". a lot of people thought Ledger's look was based off this too, but the artist came up with the design for the book a few years before TDK. so it's actually vice-versa.
