Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

"I'm with you to the end of the line" was a great, direct, instantly emotional line. "He isn't the hero we need, but the one we deserve" (or was it the hero we deserve but don't need, who can ever keep track) was an unnecessarily complicated statement that sounds like something Bilbo Baggins would say at his birthday party just to confuse people.

Yeah. Just because you don't end your movie with an action sequence doesn't inherently make it artistic or poignant by default. It needs to actually *be* artistic or poignant. Like ESB, FOTR, Heat, and so many others that feature a big action sequence in the middle but then go for the more low-key emotional finale. Civil War did a much better job of having the spectacle in the middle but then ending with a character making a speech (Zemo) and closing out with a respectively minimalist brawl.

It's obvious what TDK was going for but IMO it was a botched attempt. If for whatever reason I could only watch the last 15 minutes of any Nolan Batfilm I'd pick TDK last.

Oh no!!! Khev turned heel!! :panic: :cuss

I agree. The anti-mcu agenda posters are a big part of what makes online fandom so tiresome. There is so obviously more going on than strictly popcorn action. It's not even worth refuting. The fact that the action is being executed at such a high level at the same time should be a cake/icing scenario but it's turned to sour grapes.

I remember a post, someone lamenting that Tony Stark's inner turmoil wasn't portrayed the way "Nolan did it." I would submit that Tony expresses his dilemna more clearly, interestingly and relatably in IM 1 than 3 films of Nolan Batman do.

Some people just value the frownies, I suppose. Or maybe it's the sports mentality. Root for the uniform.

I thought every element of the TDK climax stunk. The ferry mini-play was total cheese. The cell-phone scheme reminded me of Affleck Daredevil vision, but not as good. The Joker sounded like he had been reading a lot of Batman comics. Lucius Fox's sudden moral stance and smiley abandoning of it was convenient. Dent was wasted in a quick-turnaround Hi Two-Face, Bye Two Face plot.

I think there's good stuff in there but it doesn't feel cohesive to me. I still think the superserious-tone and Ledger tragedy added a false import to the film, combined with a young generation of film noobs who jumped on it like a lot of my generation who thought Fight Club was a drama.

One of the few things I've read from you that I completely disagree with. Bromance over bruh!:lol

i feel like every single second of leto as joker is absolutely cheese garbage but what do i know :dunno
at least the DK ending was made with a purpose in mind. Leto JINO could literally be erased from the movie and nothing will change whatsoever.

DK ending, it was made as the inevitable conclusion to the build up between joker, Dent and batman. you might not like it but you could at least see it as the inevitable conclusion to the story of two men trying to clean a very corrupt city and the agent of chaos that ultimately destroys their lives, i dont see how else could be done to make it fit perfectly

how would YOU have ended it?

I've had similar thoughts after reflecting on the movie, which is probably not wise with a popcorn flick like SS. Just try to focus on the stuff you liked, that's the approach I'm trying to take.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

we are talking about bad endings and suicide squad had one of the worst endings ever.
an ending that it shares with terrible movies like Ninja turtles and Ghostbusters, a contrived ending with a horrible trashy cgi character with a dumb machine and a weird twichy girl

you guys talking about bad lines? "i wont lose another family!" WTF :rotfl diablo met these people hours ago :lol

Suicide Squad will always be one of those movies where neither fans nor haters will be able to really convincingly articulate why it worked or didn't work to the other side. For some the charm and entertainment value was never undermined by any filmmaking missteps but you can't make someone be charmed or entertained by something that rubbed them the wrong way. You either like it or you don't. By the same token people who rate films solely on how likely they are to be nominated or win Academy Awards of course are going to come away saying that SS sucked because they think they can't adequately quantify it's redeeming elements.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

the academy awards are a joke, they have been since ROTK won 12 oscars. :lol

SS is better then some of that trash that is nominated by a long shot. :lecture

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Who naturally defaults to the 2016 version? :lol Ghostbusters is Ghostbusters. There is only one.

is the one that just came out and shares the ending with suicide squad (i guess i should have specify :lol)

suicide squad also shares the ending with Amazing spiderman 1.... why the hell do all these movies share the same "machine end of the world" ending?

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

ROTK won 11 Oscars, not 12. Therefore it was a total cinematic failure :lecture

They all share the same uncredited writer. :monkey2
