Freddy looks like a nice guy with his Bill Cosby sweater and Indiana Jones hat. I'd be more afraid of Cosby.

His pizza face just makes me hungry.

I think that's why the sequels became horror comedies like the Chucky films. People just want to laugh and watch those guys kill stupid naked kids.
Of course, the Nightmare sequels were as much schlock and bad comedy as horror. But the original was really terrifying.

Is important to point out that the creator had nothing to do with the sequels so it wasnt his vision anymore.

The sequels were influenced by mtv and by the young fanbase. ( Robocop 3 faced the same problem) the studio realized how young people embraced freddy and changed the style of the movies accordingly.

The creator, Wes Craven, wrote part three.

He also directed New Nightmare. But it's true that it wasn't exactly his baby after the first one. The 2nd one in particular, with all the wacky gay themes and whatnot, was pretty far removed from a legit horror movie. Unless you are really terrified of gay stuff.

Well sure a filmmaker might "succeed" in creating something that *they* like but so what if no one else does. George Lucas made AOTC exactly the way he wanted to but what difference does that make to anyone but him?

Some people liked DP and some people didn't but stating "well the character was presented in the exact way that they intended" isn't really relevant when discussing the film's merit. It doesn't matter if a good movie is a happy accident or 100% someone's specific vision realized on screen, all that matters is if it *is* good or not. At least in discussions like this anyway.

If I ever got into the film industry (that will never happen) and I wrote the script/screenplay for the film being produced, I would be primarily focused on making something that appeals to me and making it exactly the way I want it. If you had me on the set and I saw someone make a move or say something different from how I wrote it and didn't like it, I would immediately correct them.

I'd rather make something exactly the way I want it even if it doesn't appeal to the masses, as opposed to making something else that does appeal to the masses but not to me personally. Sure I might be swimming in money if it did appeal to the masses, but I'd feel like I wasted my time with the project if it didn't appeal to me. Maybe I'm just selfish, but that's how I roll, LOL.

I agree with that.

And while Part 2 has the strange gay scenes, it does sport some pretty damn kewl fx for the time. Freddy splitting out of the kid the first time and jumping through the patio door, even if that went against the original inception.

Freddy/Jason/Myers were never scary.

Only The Shape (not Myers) from Halloween 1 and Pamela Voorhees from Friday 13th 1 were well crafted.

Maybe Pleatherface as well in the first TCM.

That's right, Freddy from Nightmare 1 was not scary but it's fun seeing Depp before his $50,000 bottle of wine days lol.

Depps greatest acting moment? Being liquefied on a ceiling.

Never scared of things either, but the kid in the corner of Blair Witch was creepy. Me and wife would do that to each other for several weeks after that in our basement. :yess:

in a funny way I am kinda glad that Freddy became a clown and became goofy in the later movies. the concept of freddy is too dark and too scary. too demonic. these movies frightened a lot of people, his backstory with the kids, his glove, Freddy was different than other slashers, the idea of freddy is way more messed up that Jason or Michael Myers.
we got two really great movies (1 and 3) so if the other ones made him goofy, I dont even hate that. they arent bad movies

See now because I let the hype get to me BW on opening night in 99 (sheesh) scared me as did Paranormal Activity.

Invisible ghosts and witchcraft scare me more than slasher guys.

Exorcist scared dafuq out of me as a kid though, that movie is messed up at all kinds of levels lol.

Is does. Out camping in a tent and hearing stuff at night. :horror

Is it jason? A bear? A witch? A some dude taking a piss?

thats the beauty of the first Freddy Kruger. he WAS like a demonic entity. he was a Ghost demon. thats why I say that the concept of freddy was so terrifying. there was something satanic about Freddy, not in the goofy way but in the scary way.
Sure now he seems as goofy as Krusty the Clown, but the very first time freddy came out, he might as well be like the exorcist girl.

Ever since I was a kid I've found that some of the scariest killers in movies are the ones who just stand there saying nothing. It probably all goes back to watching the original Halloween when I was way too young. But The Shape really freaked me out, even when standing there in that dorky ghost getup with the sheet and glasses on. Also movies like the original The Fog. People just standing quietly in the dark, in the fog, get that **** away from me. :lol

The recent "We Are Still Here" did have some of that in the beginning before ultimately going wildly off the rails. Going down into a dark basement and just seeing shapes standing there looking at you. Nope, I'm out!

Nightmare 1 was good for doing something new but for me it's only good enough to be a pimple on the ass of The Exorcist.

exorcist is just a little girl throwing up on herself with basically tourette syndrome .
why are you afraid of a tiny weak little kid yelling obscenities jye? you could take her out with one punch

Never heard of We are still here.

As an adult it obviously no longer scares me but as a kid hell yeah.

Her stabbing herself in her coochie with a crucifix, pushing her MOTHER's head into her bleeding coochie and ordering her own MOTHER to lick her and telling a priest that his mother sucks docks in hell all makes Freddy, yes even Nightmare 1 Freddy, seem very tame in comparison.
