How do you know what he said if you don't believe the New Testament? It is the only source of his teachings.

I didn't say that I said I don't believe in the Apocalypse. Believing in the Apocalypse is the same as believing the Mayans for me. :dunno

If you believe in Jesus as the Son of God, then you believe in the Day of Judgement.

One thing I can say for organized Christianity is that, in being limited by its structure, no one is going around making up their own versions of Jesus. Ironically enough, it's the saner option.

you got me there then. I guess I do not believe in what the bible says about the end of the world. I just don't, just like I don't think it will end this year either.

Teemu do you believe in the Apocalypse? is it going to happen?

I have already told you...Apocalypse is a term used as for "the end of the world"

about 3 people quoted me on it already..

The world ends when God ends it! (those who are saved(by GRACE) live for eternity in heaven and those who are not saved will burn in the lake of fire forever...when God opens the last vial and pours his wrath on this unrepentant and wicked world, then the existing world will end...then God will create/build a New Heaven and a New Earth...

I'm scared.

though,in many ways,Christianity does kinda have their own Jesus because of their own neglect of reading the Word of God and what it teaches...

Many Churches teach that man has FREE WILL and he makes the "decision" for God...while then the Bible teaches quite the opposite and says it is God who chose you first and Elects...

Ephesians 2, among so many passages in the New Testament slam this idea that man comes to God (Ephesians 2:1 "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;")

if your spiritually dead, you can't come to Christ without his help first

In my growing up years, one thing with which I always had a contradiction was whether to believe Darwin's theory of Evolution.

A very religious uncle in our family, a staunch believer, hates it when the Good Book is discussed. He says either blindly follow each and every word, or do not believe at all; but never interpret your own version of the Bible or pick and choose what you want to believe.

Anyways, I always found the idea of the Judgement Day quite exciting :) If the world ends this year or millions years later, would love to see what happens on the J-Day.

Found this article on the interwebs, guess I'll share it with my uncle :D

"Pick and choose : Which parts of the Bible are perfect?

Many Christians believe that the Bible is the wholly-true Word of God and that one must adhere to it entirely.

American Protestants call selective belief "picking and choosing." In Ireland, it's called "a la carte" Christianity. Both terms of course are dismissive of half-hearted worship.

The practice, of course, is really only an attempt at discernment.

But Christians consider this to be morally weak. (Protestants, anyhow — neither Catholics nor the Eastern Orthodox are as obsessed with the Bible.)

The Bible, in the hardline Christian view, is the Word of God, inerrant, perfect. Thus, you do not have the option of deciding which parts of the text you believe, nor which to follow. You are responsible for every word.

But everybody knows that the Bible is a mess, and many of its prescriptions are unsuitable outside of a specific culture. In these cases, it is acceptable to think of these requirements as inapplicable. Believers do not seem to consider this a contradiction.

It's true that Christians believe that Jesus' love supercedes the Old Testament laws of specific instruction. But there is no concensus about which parts of the Old Testament are no longer applicable.

So in practice, a believer must discern.

In other words, one must "pick and choose." This is acceptable if a group does so — but it is not acceptable by individual discretion. At least, that's the convention."
