Seems like most are psyched about the casting which confuses me as the argument against MBJ being Johnny is "it's not accurate to the comics"

Really, go ahead and quote one person who's psyched. It's only 3 pages so it won't take long to go through. I count zero.

It's the Mandarin all over again. Hollywood must hate Asian men. I can't wait to see her play Bruce Lee in the Bruce lee movie :lol

I heard her next gig will be as Long Duck Dong in the Sixteen Candles remake.

"Automobeeeel?" :lol

Pretty much.
She's an awesome actress, but... what the actual ****???!

I'm sure Nova is speaking on the responses from other sites. So far it seems people think this is perfect casting :lol

I was just taking a friendly jab at Khev, I wasn't serious.

I think she's perfect

Indeed, perspective is all ****ing wonky. :lol

You have maybe ten who know about Ancient One for every million people who know Storm. And of those ten, maybe three of them give a rip about him. On a good day. There's no connectivity with the masses to him as there is with Storm/Torch. This is arguing apples and orangutans. Or, like I said, sour grapes.

But at its heart it's about people getting outraged at one for "changing from the source" and applauding another for "changing from the source"

The comments I'm seeing on sites like Reddit are "Wow great actress. Who's the Ancient One?" :lol Even I didn't know before today and I've been a comic fan for 22 years. I used to get uncut sheets of character cards and stuff from my dad's friend that worked for Fleer. Never heard of him.

Compare it to the backlash MCU faced for Mandarin or when the rumor of a black Spidey popped up, and it simply isn't the case.

You're reaching now to support a very weak and empty argument.
You continue to make these strawman arguments to support what you want to say. No one is really applauding what you're saying they are.
I think the closest you'll find is Riddick saying that she's a great actress, but what the ****?!!! That's completely different than what you want people to believe is being said, that is not being said.

Again, grant yourself some perspective and take a breath. There's a large contingent of people who know about Storm/Torch and his historic background. Altering that can be quite jarring.

This smacks more of personal agenda and personal outrage, and maybe a little tuchushurt , than any realistic pursuit at logical argument.

People were happy when Ben Kingsley was cast as The Mandarin, who shared no resemblance to the comic book character whatsoever, people got upset because they turned what was supposed to be Iron Man's number one foe into a joke. And even still, the majority liked that movie.

When rumors of black Spidey began, there was a huge chunk of the fan base that were all for it and even wanted that Gambino guy to play him, petitions were started even.

No one is really applauding what you're saying they are..

From a few sites the majority of commenters seems to be supportive of this casting.

The casting is supported despite being different from the comics but when others are cast and are different from the comics then people get outraged and use the argument that it's "difference from the comics"

It's selective outrage based on on the same principle but applying only when they want it to. Thus hypocrisy.

It seems that the people who care about race bending are for characters that are popular among fans. People talked **** about Johnny being African cause he's a very beloved character. When it's more of a supporting role or a character that isn't well known, people don't seem to ***** too much about it, like Heimdall or The Ancient One.

Right... and there are people like yourselves defending Jordan so... what's your point?

You guys are the only ones I constantly see going into all the other comic threads and spitefully bringing it up constantly while broadly insinuating everyone is a hypocritical a-hole. :lol Can't imagine why you aren't winning hearts and minds.

You change your wording again to a lower level. There's a difference in applauding the casting to being supportive. Your argument gets weaker each time. :dunno

It's really not the same thing, but if you want to keep waving that banner, I think you'll find you're alone when your arms get tired.

REV'RUND! :lecture

It seems that Hollywood's definition of "diversity" means black characters and female characters. As long as those two groups are well represented, the films have a "diverse" cast. I don't like the gender and race swapping in comic films, and this is the second time Marvel does the same thing with an Asian character. If they want to change the gender for the sake of diversity, fine, but at least get an Asian actress to play the role. It seems that the only way Asians can get a job in Hollywood is if they know how to throw kicks and punches and the film has an Asian theme :slap It really bothers me, and I'm not even Asian :lol

But what about 90 year old Hank Pym?
