Maybe Cumberbatch was popular and I just didn't know that. I didn't think anyone knew who he was. He's just that odd looking guy I see every now and then, not at all how I pictured Strange (I don't really know the character though). Tilda Swinton looked laughable in the short parts we've seen, but I dig her so maybe she does have star power. As for comparing this to SKAWD, nahhh squad will kill it with Joker, Harley, and Bats. It's going to make the money no matter what. BVS may have been a miss, but its made way more than Strange ever will. Still, I think this will be another Thor series.

Cumberbatch is an aclaimed theatre actor, got an Oscar Nomination for Best Actor for the Immitation Game and is the modern face of Sherlock. The guy's got a huge international appeal, to the point where even folks like my parents know and like him. He's certainly no small fry.

As for the bolded, you don't know that any more than you know that Strange is gonna flop. People were saying that MoS would hit 900M and have an 80+ on RT. We saw what happened. People were saying that BvS would be the event of the century, would dethrone Avatar and make 2.5 billion while having a 90+ on RT. And again, we saw how that turned out.

Yes, SKWAD has Joker, Will Smith and a lengthy cameo from Batman. But it also has an unrecognizable, to the majority, name, is coming after BvS, is a radical departure from most CBMs and features characters like Katana, Boomerang and the like in starring roles. It's not exactly a household name, and neither does it feature a buttload of A-List actors.

For the record, I don't believe that SS will flop. If anything, I think it'll be a great succes. But to say that Strange will flop whereas SKWAD is gonna make money no matter what, is a tad ignorant. What Strange lacks in character recognition, it makes up with brand recognition and synergy.

We, the regular folk, don't know jack**** about whether or not a movie is gonna flop or be a massive success. We can go by the numbers or read some articles close to release, by actual analysts who know their job. To say that it's gonna flop based on mere instict 7 months before its release and after a measly teaser ain't exactly something I put much stock in.

The box office for this one is hard to predict. Sure, it might "under perform" by current Marvel standards. But it could also be an unexpectedly huge smash like GOTG or ANT-MAN... or anywhere in between.

I seriously doubt it will outright "bomb", though.

Pretty much this. Maybe it'll not make 800M due to it being a tad different. But will it make a measly 200M and be Marvel's first flop? I really doubt it.

"Marvel" is a trusted name. Hell I have coworkers who don't know anything about comics telling me, "Oh it's a Marvel movie right? It's gonna be a good movie then."

Casual movie goers will go out and see the film at least once. No way this will bomb.

you've convinced me this definitely wont flop. It'll get a sequel, then they'll have to shove him in a team somewhere or on Netflix because it wont do as well as they'd hoped.

It'll probably get a sequel tbh
And he'll probably team up with Iron Fist somewhere down the line and Hot Toys can make a 1:6 Iron Fist figure for me.

this must be the brothel scene. :woo

I like the surreal/trippy look of the film, the teaser did its job and I'm interested in the movie.

Outside of the trailer, I know next to nothing about the character since I'm not into comics.

I am glad I don't read comic books so I can enjoy the film on its own merits versus comparing it to something. The last time I was invested into reading comics the stories / characters were much like 70-80 tv shows. Boy would I be disappointed :lol

I can't get over just how bad this reveal trailer was.

Booooooring comes to mind.

I was surfing youtube and on the side with the recommended videos was a "reaction to Dr. Strange trailer". I can only assume the video ended with the person sleeping :rotfl

It seriously has to be the worst trailer to come out of the MCU, teaser or otherwise.

The only decent image was the last shot but it pretty much shows you, in shadow, his final form no less!

The opening shot of the trailer was ugly, the color was bland and the powers looked flat and uninteresting, it did nothing to draw me into his journey.

Meh...

curious to see if this plays in front of Jungle Book tonight when I go see it. I want to see the crowds reaction, or lack of
