Just heard from a buddy that watched it that there's way too much humor in this movie.

Really hoping he's wrong. I really need this to be another IRON MAN (2008) given that Cumberbatch is basically going to take RDJ's place as head of this franchise after IW.

Been reading the same. From everything I'm hearing I know this movie isn't for me, cool visuals, bland villain, too much humor etc...

Sucks because I was actually looking forward to watching this one.

I can answer why Tony didn't use the Iron Armors in the Civil War fight. Ultron. Tony probably doesn't want use AI again...not at that level. :D

Watching it AT 7:00 PM, opening night November 3rd in IMAX.

I wanna leave that theater the way I left IRON MAN in '08. Completely ****ing impressed. I was sooooo happy with that movie and then the stinger was an awesome bonus in the end.

Best ending to an MCU movie though for me was The Avengers (2012). I cheered when Thanos turned. My crowd went insane. THANOS!!!!!! was being screamed by people (and shockingly pronounced right).

Best reactions to MCU films:
1st place - The Avengers (2012)
2nd place - Iron Man (2008)
3rd place - Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
4th place - Guardians of The Galaxy (2014)
5th place - original press release for The Incredible Hulk (2008) *The Tony Stark stinger was still after the credits

*Special mention - Iron Man 2 (2010) didn't love this movie but the stinger was perfection. Everyone in the crowd roared as the camera panned down to reveal Mjolnir. Mediocre movie but perfect way to setup Thor.

WORST reactions:

1st place: Captain America: Civil War (2016) Rhodey gets fixed by tech, The Avengers get broken outta jail, Bucky gets frozen, but above all ---> that bull**** letter from Steve to Tony. Left annoyed. Got more annoyed after second viewing. So much potential wasted.
2nd place: Iron Man 3 (2013) I actually felt upset for a while. I was upset throughout the film too.
3rd place: Ant-Man (2015) To be fair, I rolled my eyes during most of the movie. Left completely uninterested. Almost got up before the pointless stinger.
4th place: Thor: The Dark World (2013) left completely underwhelmed. BDT's stinger helped a bit, but still incredibly underwhelmed.
5th place: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) the lack of a third act had me disappointed already but the multiple endings disappointed me even further. This movie looked better than Iron Man (2008) in the trailers. *The stinger for this film was that mini Avengers trailer which was awesome. That helped a bit with the underwhelming finish to CAP: TFA.

I can accept that, but I better not see anymore armors in future movies :lol

Eh, Based on everything I read, this is just another "Solid" entry in the MCU.

Just got back from seeing this. Amazing movie. Like a cross between the Matrix and Inception. The humour is used well. It's funny when it needs to be and serious when it needs to be and JFC the visuals !!!!

Just back from the film. LOVED it. Cumberbatch is perfect in the role. Mads is good but underused, I wouldn't say no to a figure. The effects are INCREDIBLE. Definitely see it in 3D it really is an immersive experience.

I will admittedly be surprised if Cumberpatch is the face of the MCU after IW. First of all I think Black panther will be a more popular film and character (very premature, I know) and I don't even think he will be. It might be Bucky or Cap if he hangs around. Or whomever replaces Iron Man. I don't see Strange being what RDJ'S Iron Man is. He might be a talented actor, but I still don't see it.

Spiderman would be an obvious pick if they had free reign with him.

I thought Iron Man did a great job balancing the drama and humor. When Tony was in the cave, captured, rescued, betrayed by Stane etc.. was all taken serious.

A lot of MCU films mix both at the same time which tends to come off as awkward, take Iron Man 2 for example, and the big showdown with Iron Man and Warmachine, or Iron Man 3 with Tony cracking Jokes right after Pepper's death. I hope Doctor Strange leans more towards the original Iron Man where it handles the humor properly.

I get it. I loved the back and forth banter between Tony and Rhodes in IM2. I hated all of IM3. The humor has to hit.

But Tony stark is a total smart ass even in tense times. It's who is character is. Very few situations and opponents make him shed that trait in the comics. I don't think iron man 2 and civil failed at that balance, I think given the circumstances on screen they were staying loyal to the character.

Civil War is inevitably compared to its comic book "inspiration", so people think Iron man wasn't serious enough. That he joked too much. But just given what was happening on screen, he wouldn't have been in comics either imo (of course different writers have written him differently). I thought Tony was written perfectly in the movie and was serious when it called for it. But I can totally see him in the airport scene dealing with his frustration and leadership role through wisecracks and sarcasm.

Iron man 3 was just a miss all around imo.

But the events of IM1 were far more traumatic to him. Since then he obviously got way more confident and comfortable with his role of a superhero (even arrogant) and since whiplash and ultron both ending up being disappointing compared to their comicbook counterparts, I enjoy that Tony stark is still his forward, smart ass and witty self.

What can get old is spiderman humor. He's supposed to be witty with his wordplay and insults and not because he's clumsy and just an erratic mess in a fight lol. Hopefully in his next films he's a more confident and disciplined fighter so his calm demeanor can come into play.

Just came back from the theatre and... it's bloody awesome. There was no 3D showing, so I had to make due for the 2D one, but man, you have not even seen the surface of the effects from the trailers and tv-spots. The story is pretty by-the-numbers, and there are a few cheesy lines, but come on, it's a movie about sorcerers battling evil overlords, of coure it's gonna have its kiddie moments. Nevertheless, everyone does a bang-up job and there are no weak links. Mordo's arc is great and sets him up as the next Loki, Strange is great character with a standard but very nice journey, and even Kaecilius is one of the better villains.

As for the humour, personally speaking, I found it great, In my theatre, every joke landed, some more than others, but still. The Wong/Beyonce one is a running gag, but unlike Cap's "language" one, it has a satisfying resolution. Really, don't be worried about it. It's mostly a coping mechanism for Strange and is more in line with "uncomfortable humour" than rapid on-liners. Nothing like most recent MCU movies anyway. Think a cross between TWS & Iron Man.

Now, for some spoilers...

1) I loved how they did the Mindless Ones. When Dormammu takes Kaecilius and the Zealots, he turns them into MOs, and i think that's a great way to explain how they came to be. Basically everyone who sides with Dormammu and gets his/her due, becomes a servant.

2) I think they didn't kill off Kaecilius to leave a door open. They could've just killed him, but they went the MO route, so if Mads wants to return, I can see them having him be Dormammu's avatar in another flick. Not likely, but it can be done so that Mikkelsen won't be wasted on a one-and-done role.

3) Mordo's new motivations are a far cry from his comic origins, being more akin to the Silver Dagger's. But personally speaking, I greatly enjoyed the new take, as comic Mordo was as one-dimensional as it gets. The MCU version can definitely become a much more complex figure.

4) I disliked Dormammu's look, but it kept in line with his FA and it was logical. Having him appear as a flaming head clad in black armour would've been pure fan-service. I'd say if they do another flick, he's sure to turn up. It wasn't a bad design, and he's no Gah-Lak-Tus, since he clearly had a body, so as a first taste, it was good enough.

5) Like I said, before, I enjoyed everyone, from Wong o the Ancient One. Each character had his or her own voice, and it really helped set them apart and really flesh them out. Same goes for the MCU's magic. It's not filled with boiling cauldrons and top hats, as it's got some logic behind it, but it's still unquestionably "magic". More magical than the Enchantress ********e anyway.

6) Looks like he's gonna be in Ragnarok, at least for a scene. Man, it really is crazy how we're at such a point in the MCU where Thor can meet up with Doctor Strange in order to find Odin, and then go on to have a team-up with Hulk. See, this **** right here is why even when the MCU stumbles it's never awful. Because they took the things that made comics fan, and put them on the big screen.

Long story short, it's definitely in my Top 5 MCU flicks. Great acting, amazing visuals unlike any other, and, surprisingly, some ****ing ace cinematography. Yeah, no kidding, that TV-Show tone that certain flicks like Avengers, Thor and the like had is gone now. It looked like a legit big-budget production with some real talent behind the camera.

It could've been a tad longer and incorporated some more stuff, but it's a fantastic origin flick. I'll give it an: 8.5/10

As for my rankings:

1) TWS
2) Iron Man
3) Doctor Strange
4) Civil War
5) GotG
