....Both series are brilliant and both series are terrible in equal measure. I can't stand objective discussion being limited only to one.

Thats exactly how I feel. The pros and cons of both classic and new sort even out the playing for me.

Kinda like a gun shy Star Wars crowd fearful of criticizing the Prequels?

Weird.

Well, personally I'm not offended by criticism of the show, just when an attitude is attached to it.

See I've never separated the two. Classics and New is there simply for marketing, but it's STILL Doctor Who.

Yeah. But you can't help not separating them if not from classic vs. new you certainly can from producer to producer... let alone from Doctor to Doctor. I think its natural to compartmentalize the series and weigh them.

But I agree. You just have to accept its the same man from Unearthly child to Planet of the Dead and the rest is easy. :)

Either A)you like to hear yourself repeat "I hate David Tennant" over and over or B)you're trying to make people who like David Tennant feel bad.

A) Wrong
B) Wrong again

Aside from this thread I only post on a couple of Who sites and of those 3 sites 1 is OK with my posting style even if they don't agree. That is neither here, nor Outpost Who.

I did notice you were racking up quite the post count at Gallifrey Base. :lol I think I have posted more over there than I have here lately... or at least it seems I am over there more often.

I like SSF, GB, OW WhoNA, and OS. I think they all have their strengths.

Easier to separate them Doctor by Doctor. Quite honestly if it weren't for the Beebs attitude toward the series before it's 16 year hiatus I think you wouldn't see the mentality you do now. Doctor Who is the best sci fi/fantasy on TV right now. It outlasted Star Trek! But if you notice, Doctor Who is also a reflection of what's "trend" on television too. I mean, really.. the Doctor doing karate/judo? Don't see that much now, but back then kung fu and the likes were pretty popular.

Yeah. Womens lib was a big theme in the early 70's as well. But they still managed to take companions out with twisted ankles. I don't miss that in the new series AT ALL! :lol

i've seen a few...just saw the sontorians or whatever, the prehistoric aliens. don't remember a karate chop.

hey, are there only a couple of discs out for the second doctor? I thought I added all the Who discs in order to my netflix and seem to have only had a few of his...

Which is perhaps an indication of the general decline of the genre as a whole.

I do seperate things Doctor by Doctor though,

1-4 & 9 = I'll watch
5-8 plus 10 & 11 = Not part of my continuity :lol

Hold on Brendan! You said you liked Series 2. I am going to hold it to you that at least a small part of you liked David Tennants Doctor. :lol

But I half agree with you there (while I love all the docs) JNT's era as producer saw a very steep decline. :(

I dont think it's an indication of the genre, just an indication that there is no longer a home for sci-fi. Heroes tanked itself, Lost is nearly finished, Sci Fi has become Syfy. Most of the sci fi programming of late that I'm seeing has come from the UK.

Vampires have taken a bite out of sci-fi. Seriously, my wife is a fan of the vampire genre. There are so many different series of vampire shows she has watched its silly. But very rarely do they last more than 1 or 2 seasons.

Also, while I like some sci-fi, most of the made for TV stuff is complete and utter garbage like Stargate Atlantis anyway.
