The golden age of 1/6th could only last so long. Nothing gold can stay and all :lol

But there is rebirth in death: 1/4 :rock

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

MGS, The Green Lantern, Angelica , The Suckerpunch Figures, Tron , Platoon, Avatar, Nolan Pred, City Hunter Characters and much more that I have not listed<--- some have been empty promises that have yet to be fulfilled by this company. And a lot of customers have put a percentage of their money into these yet-to-be released figures. Give me a reason why some of these customers don't have the right to criticize this company when they announced the terminator. It adds the already backlogged schedule of their manufacturers. I can understand now how this issue can effect largely on their QC and also the sculptors focus. Just look at the DX10 and the 1/4 T-800. Put aside the scale, you can definitely see Howard trying to push his sculptors to focus more on the 1/4 figures. It seems like they are given less time to do their 1/6 products now. I can foresee a downfall coming whereby customers won't have the need to PO their products anymore since you can find loads and loads of their current figures still sitting in store shelves. EB seems to be a positive example of how figures should be released. Take the slow route and positive results will follow. Soon you'll find no scarface versions lingering around, their T-800 is already Sold out!

Why would the customers be the casualties? Isnt a a competitive market a good thing for customers? Having two companies trying to one up each other should mean we as customers get more/better releases.

Should is key word there. :lol

It's a mixed bag. In this instance, it's a 50/50 split, for some it's great this figure is made, for others it's a wasted release that feels like it exists solely for the feud, and most of those folks don't see this as improvement over the previous release.

If it looked like HT really overhauled MMS117 to make a much better figure, I'd probably give kudos for the effort, but this just feels like a weak attempt to take a shot at EB for getting so much praise for their T-800.

At least when EB copied HT, albeit a different scale, they worked hard to make right the things folks said were wrong on the HT T-800.

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

I am yet to own an EB product, The 1/4 Batman will be my first, then we'll see if i trust them :lol

1/6 figures in general suffer from a lot of QC issues, and Enterbay is no exception. The build quality in some of Enterbay's previous releases were just pathetic. The problems are more apparent for Hot Toys only because they have more figures out in the market, and because their brand is more recognized.

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

Not only are they milking the licenses with re-releases, but it seems that they are also flooding the market with these figures in terms of sheer quantity. For example, The hot toys predator line use to sellout fast, especially their Limited edition preds, (guardian predator sold out in like 5 mins after it was released). Now, their preds just sit on the shelves of retailers collecting dust-i.e: the "limited edition" shadow pred. has been out for several months now still available for sale, and same with Tracker pred. Hot Toys seems to be spitting on the faces of the very collectors who helped make them what they are today.

I'm not sure what you're point is here. You state that Hot Toys are spitting in the faces of collectors because they no longer sell out due to the large quantities.

I don't understand how this affects anyone but scalpers or those who foolishly purchase HT figures as an investment.

This comes back to that exclusivity that seems to exist among some collectors who have what is considered a 'grail' figure and are unhappy at the prospect of a re-release. Shouldn't as many people as possible be able to enjoy these items?

I for one could care less if it says limited edition on the box, thats not why i buy them, i buy them because i enjoy the detail and awesomeness of lil' 1/6 people on my shelf!

Yes, you're correct. Competition is a good thing in most cases. But in this case, it seems like Hot Toys is just releasing whatever enterbay releases just to one-up them rather than giving the collectors what they really want. For example, it seems as though Hot Toys re-released this T-800 Arnold figure because Enterbay announced that they were releasing one. Hot Toys has already released this figure and it was already great, why re-release practically the same thing again?! But I agree, it's good that enterbay is there to keep hot toys from being complacent. In sum, it seems as though whatever Enterbay tries to release, Hot Toys tries to release just out of spite, even when they've already released that figure just a few years back.

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

Going to have to agree. The war is between Enterbay and Hot toys, and the casualties are the collectors.

That doesn't really make sense. They are both trying to top each other so we get more choices than ever before and both companies are improving their releases to out do the other company.

Sure, it's a little sinister that HT seems to want to put EB out of business - but the collectors are the winners, not the casualties.

I agree- WE win because of this HT/EB "war". They will up quality against each other, bonus features and maybe even price points. WE have a choice now, not just stuck with the version one company may create and sell.

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

I think competition is big win for costumers.

As is the case with most other company rivalries!

Not saying there isn't competition but neither company are releasing the same thing. eg, EB do a 1:4 and T2 and HT do a 1:4 T1

Nah, it's just business. I'm no Rupert Murdoch but at the end of the day this is their bread n butter so they need to out do the competition

Which is why they've re-released a T2.

Really, all HT have to do is go on eBay, see whats selling for stupid prices and come to the logical conclusion that they may as well make more of them and pocket the cash themselves!

Which makes me wonder why they haven't rereleased a Blade or a Wolverine...

I wouldn't be so sure. The problem is, that not everyone will be able to afford a large collection of 1/4 scale figures that cost in upwards of $400 to $500 a pop. It's most likely the case that the folks who have been collecting 1/6 figures will continue to collect in that scale, because it'll be more consistent with the rest of their collection. The large size of 1/4 scale collectibles is another concern for those who don't have a lot of space their homes.

It's nice that Hot Toys has offered a 1/4 scale line-up, but I highly doubt that they'll fly off the shelves, and let alone replace their offerings of 1/6 figures. I believe that most collectors would want, at most, one or two 1/4 figures in their collection, if any at all (price and the large scale being deciding factors).

There are many different type of collectors out there. Some collect for pure enjoyment, others collect for investment, and some collect for both. I should have clarified that Hot Toys is angering the type of collectors that collect for the 2 later examples.

I think it's great that they are re-releasing for the collectors who missed out on the first. It just sucks for the collectors who were their from the beginning who bought the first one only a few years back, only to have this same figure being re-released again. I also feel bad for the collectors who spent hundreds of dollars on ebay for the Ironman Mark I, only to find out that Hot Toys is re-releasing a 2.0 version of it. These are the collectors who are probably upset with hot toys-the ones that were with them since the beginning and got in early or the ones that missed out and paid the crazy aftermarket prices on ebay.

I have to admit, part of the cool factor was the fact that their prices went up in value because they use to be scarce. It was a nice extra bonus to collecting such detailed and awesome figures. I understand why some are angry that they are flooding the market with them now and re-releasing. There is no right or wrong way to collect. I just think that most people, whether they admit it or not, enjoyed the added bonus to see their figures go up in value because of their rarity.

As much as I'm looking forward to seeing how the 1/4 figures turn out, I would much prefer to collect in 1/6 scale.

To me, collecting as an investment doesn't make sense. There are other things that would be more profitable to invest your money in if you're looking for a return profit. If the value of a toy goes up, that's a bonus. I recently bought a T2 T-800 in the aftermarket and spent $100 more than this will now retail. But that's a chance you take in this hobby I've found because at the end of the day, these are just TOYS.

MORE CHOICES
in terms OF an alternative to the SAME FIGURE yes, BUT LESS CHOICES in terms of the variety OF DIFFERENT FIGURES. For instance, instead of hot toys spending all their energy trying to one-up and copy-cat Enterbay on the same figure, it would have been nice if Hot toys spent that same energy on making a new and different figure that they've never released before, such as maybe a Blade villain character, or terminator 3 female endoskeleton etc...
