Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

To me, collecting as an investment doesn't make sense. There are other things that would be more profitable to invest your money in if you're looking for a return profit. If the value of a toy goes up, that's a bonus. I recently bought a T2 T-800 in the aftermarket and spent $100 more than this will now retail. But that's a chance you take in this hobby I've found because at the end of the day, these are just TOYS.

:exactly:

It's better to invest in gold or the stock market if someone's primary goal is to have a return on their money. The best collections out there are from people who bought the things that they liked, and by chance, some of those things end up being very valuable in the long run.

It's such a shame when some people base the "worth" of their figures on the after-market prices alone and nothing else.

Agreed, but we can't fault people who choose to collect as investments. It's their decision to collect that way. Whether it makes sense to us or not, doesn't mean that they are wrong to collect that way or that it's not right. Everyone collects for different reasons. There is no right or wrong way to collect.

The little added bonus is nice though, wouldn't you agree? It just sucks that hot toys seems to be moving in the direction of taking that "bonus" away from us is all I'm saying.

More choices in terms of an alternative to the same figure yes, but less choices in terms of the variety of different figures. For instance, instead of hot toys spending all their energy trying to one-up and copy-cat Enterbay on the same figure, it would have been nice if Hot toys spent that same energy on making a new and different figure that they've never released before, such as maybe a Blade villain character, or terminator 3 female endoskeleton etc...

...or Metal Gear Solid.

:exactly: :goodpost:

Instead of trying to crush EB with figures that weren't expected they should make figures that are long expected that EB can't actually do

I totally agree, there is no right way to collect. It just bothers me when I read people complaining about these rereleases because their toy that they were planning to flip for a profit of $200 is now not worth as much because again, these toys are not supposed to be an investment.

Yea the bonus is nice, but I'm also not going to lose sleep over it if my $400 figure is now only worth $200 :lol.

I think the reason people are complaining about this release though has absolutely nothing to do with flipping the current MMS for profit.

EVERYONE WANTS THE BATTLE DAMAGED VERSION.

Thats the gist of it.

Im sure the Battle Damaged version is coming, but when? Just going to be a much longer wait now. Since it took HT 2 years to come up with this....

Don't let it bother you, as I'm sure many like them have been burned by Hot Toys already. Case in point: In hong kong there was a scalper who was paying people to get in line to buy up all the Limited edition shadow predator figures. I bet he's hurting right now as that shadow pred is everywhere and still not sold out.

to me i think it's not that the value of the figure drops but rather the re-releasing of a figure so similar but maybe just slightly and only slightly better that makes people angry they bought the first version only to have another slightly different version coming out again. it's like they throw out an inferior version and then maybe 6mths later they decide to improve some detail on it and release it again.

i mean this isn't the iphone for god's sake, its just a toy. i dont want versions 2.0 or 3.0 or 4.0, just get it right the first time or at most 2nd and leave it and focus on other licenses!!!

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

a good move would have been making a damaged base body with normal and damaged clothes and head sculpts leaving out the shotgun and colt and including the tear gas launcher and people would be happy instead of the outburst we have now. then they could make an exclusive version with the normal body included just like bruce lee and everyone would have been happier.

im still waiting for xmen 1st class and metal gear solid... WHERE ARE THEY????

If I buy a figure brand new when it's first released it doesn’t bother me if it's re-released or a second version comes out later. What does bother me is when I buy a figure later from an individual or the secondary market, pay hundreds more for it and afterwards HT releases or issues a second version of it.
The only conclusion I can possibly walk away from the fact is "You snooze, you lose", so I try to buy what I want or think I may want when it's first offered; learned the hard way from playing catch up with all the Ironman MK's (MK I and MK II included).

i would honestly buy this if the dx version included:

conan potriat w/outfit & atlantean sword...............:yess:

I have loyalty to Chevrolet. :wave

As you should imo. Chevy has made some great stuff over the years. Even in that category I have no brand loyalty. I'm a big fan of the Vette, Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. All awesome in their own ways.

A car is a car, when it comes right down to it; it may be put together in America but it's parts came from China. :nana:

Another issue has been raised that I think is at the heart of the overall frustration with re-releases, an that's the fact they're no re-releases but upgraded models. If this was exactly MMS117 sold again, people might be bummed at nothing new coming out, but right now it's a struggle to cope with HT conducting themselves like an Apple or an auto maker who puts out a new version of the same thing each year. Problem is, there is no consistency, T-800 is redone but doubtful T-1000 will be. As a customer, how can you know whether you're buying a figure destined for re-release next year or a one time only piece. It'd be one thing for HT to release the biker T1 over again because there's a great deal of time and advancement in between, but this, HT has done no better work on DX10 than MMS117, it's just small modifications.

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

Well remember, HT is trying to crush the secondary market at this point, so we may see remakes of virtually everything they have done so far.

HT's just need to remember the things that made them one of the best in the business and transfer this into the future releases.

Well put

What I don't get is WHY?! They should be flattered that their products appreciate in value - nothing more.

This is pure greed at work, trying to cash in the money going into the secondary market. Whether you like this release or not, there's no escaping that simple fact.
