How people take it so personally is what amazes me. I mean it's no different than any other figure or any other company for that matter. If a company puts out an item you don't like then don't buy it. By all means express your reasoning for not liking it, but don't take it so personal.

Sometimes I wonder if SS has actually shot themselves in the foot by being so involved with the customer. It seems like the more interaction they have with some fans, the more the fans expect, and the more vocal they get when something doesn't turn out exactly the way they want it. Sure, for the price I think we all would place some high expectations on the items especially as far as quality goes, but we shouldn't expect to be given a vote on the design team and expect SS to start letting us make the decisions. But some folks appear to feel that way according to the arguments and criticisms they make.

I bet the folks at Sideshow are a little baffled too. I'm sure they thought their fans would get a kick out them putting one of their own faces on a no name soldier, and a lot of their older fans probably did, but I think they misjudged how anal Star Wars fans can be about that sort of thing. I don't mean that as a slight or insult against Star Wars fans, but they are a fiercely fanatical bunch.

You're probably right. This isn't the first time this has happened. As some of their more 'generic' lines have sculpts based on SS staff also IIRC.

It seems that some fans think they own Star Wars and that if something isn't done the way they like its a personal affront. If I was never told that Brant was the basis for the sculpt, I never would have known. I ordered 2 of the sets. The only lines I collect anymore are these, SS LOTR, Master Replicas Muppets and any Hasbro remakes of vintage figures. That's it. Are they perhaps a little expensive? Perhaps. Am I happy they are making ERTs, without a doubt. I grew up with Jedi, so anything Jedi to me is golden. Not everyone wants Stormies outta the gate. Not everyone wants Hoth out of the gate. Endor is done, we got our troops. Now SS can move onto other peoples top favorites. All troops will most likely be done and re-done. Just because your top pick wasn't first doesn't mean someone else isnt happy.

Same here. I've seen more than one mean sprited comment, very thinly veiled as jokes, at Brant's expense. I'm not sure why something that was done by Sideshow probably out of a sense of community with their fans was taken so personally by some. They act as if someone has a gun to their head forcing them to buy it.

Would have added TONS of playability if we could get multiple heads! I hope they do that some day. I too wasnt so sure about the Brant figure, but Im not certain why folks are upset by it. I just took it to be somewhat funny, somewhat vein, but I guess my issue was that it could have been used to make an African American figure or someone else directly from the movie, but hey, I bought it, it's cool. They should do a contest to make some fan into a ERT, that'd show EVERYONE!

I think it's true that this is only a big deal because Sideshow allows us to see their employees in the first place. You can go to their web page and read bios of many of their staff. I couldn't tell you the name of anybody who works at one of the other collectible companies. For example, GG doesn't give credit to the artists who create the pieces, whereas SS gives full artist info on the product page. They don't want to be a nameless, faceless corporation, and they want to give credit where credit is due.

Honestly, if another company used their employees as models I would have absolutely no clue. But having met SS staff like Chris and Brant and Marc and Dusty and Mat, etc., I would recognize them and think it was a lot of fun to see them captured in action figure form. (I have a feeling that the uproar will be very minor when we finally get a Jedi Master Dusty figure.)

Sometimes I wonder the same thing Ox :) But, at least from where I stand, the positive FAR outweighs the negative! I love that I get to interact with you guys on a 'personal' level on the board here and even meet some of you face to face at the Con. I don't think I could (or would) work for a company that didn't have that interaction with its customers. And just let me say this here, since this seems to be a popular thread and a lot of people may see it - when someone addresses me by name and wants me to answer a question, don't take it personally if it doesn't get answered right away. I usually see most things, but sometimes I don't see it until a few days later, since I have a life as well and am not on the board all the time ;) In fact, I'm going to Vegas in about 10 minutes, so wish me luck :chew

BTW, I don't mean to derail the thread - yes, the Trooper bundle has been popular! We didn't really know what to expect since it was the first time trying something like this. As for edition size, TomandShell is right, the total edition size for the individual figures will include those that were purchased in the bundle, so those sizes will be announced when the PPO's take place (except for the Infantry figure, since that one is TBD until wholesalers have placed all their orders) :duff

Why is it that there are just a few members here that think the way you and I do Tomand Shell? It's like SSC can do no wrong. Weird. When I buy something I want it to work or not be broken. I'm not just going to say Oh Well SSC made it, it must be OK.

???

My post wasnt ment for SS to ignore problems. Yes I've received broken/blemished items/parts from SS and they replaced them without question. Very few companies are like that.

Hell, I bought a brand new "superior to domestic" Honda Civic for my wife that had to have the engine replaced with only 450 miles on the clock because of a spun bearing. Again, **** happens with all companies. I

t's what the company does to make up for it. And SS does.

Well, that's good to know. I would hope that SS would have thick skin as most artist do. Once your work is out there, it is no longer yours, so you'll get the good, that bad, the indifferent. Trust me, I know. I design space for people...they're IMPOSSIBLE to please, but sometimes you get it right and a whole staff of folks thank you and praise you for your ingenuity and effort. I think SS gives GREAT effort in thier art and thank them for that. I also think that we need to stop using inflammatory language here to describe "SW fans" and "newbies"(like me) and the like.
Again, the ERTs are a good set of figs and I still think SS has set us up for the take down. I believe we're in for it for 2nd-4th Qtr '07! Dusty??? Huh??? :)
