Hadn't occurred to you that they weren't attempting the same thing, huh?

Thanks.

But I was the person who said they weren't comic book movies. In the most stripped down terms, comics are written for kids---the Batman trilogy requires a longer attention span than most kids are willing to expend. Doesn't mean they can't, or that they're incapable of liking the films to the extent that they're able to digest them, but compared to the Avengers, Nolan's Batman is not accessible.

But they're based on comic characters and settings. Thus, they're comicbook movies. In fact, I'd argue it's more than simply taking the characters and setting, but it takes certain plot elements as well. Not literal adaptations of course but you can see the connections.

BB- Year One, The Man Who Falls
TDK - The Long Halloween, Killing Joke
TDKR - Dark Knight Returns, No Man's Land, Knightfall, Legacy

I agree that kids are able to enjoy Avengers whereas they may find Nolan's films too scary or just plain boring.

Batman is a comic book character, so Nolan's Batman films are comic book movies. Watchmen, 300, A History of Violence, From Hell and Road to Perdition are other comic book movies. A comic book movie can be long, dark, serious and adult oriented, depending upon the source material. Not all comic material is intended for kids, and therefore not all movies adapted from comic books are going to be appropriate for children. That doesn't mean they aren't comic book adaptations.

But Avengers played like a comic book. It was like the story came off the page and onto the screen.

None of the Batman films had that quality, and I'm guessing that was the issue most of the people who were dissatisfied with them had. Actually, I'm not really guessing. Most have said as much.

So then what do you think was the purpose of the poll? :rotfl

To see what everyone's favorite movie based on a superhero, released this summer was? :dunno

But Avengers played like a comic book.

You can't make a generalization like that. Avengers played like an Avengers comic book. Batman plays like a Batman comic book. 300 played like a 300 comic book. There's not just one kind of comic book or one kind of comic book audience.

You see no common thread amongst comic books?

The thread I'm seeing is that they are not movies. They are different artistic mediums.

You're not going to crack the shell of their walled-up mentality on that. They have to segregate Nolan's films to justify them to themselves. It's pretty sad. :lol

That might have been an argument 30 years ago, but that's completely invalid today. Completely.

There's about 4-5 DC comics I would allow someone under 12yo to read today.

Maybe Marvel is different?

Which did you enjoy most?

This is the original post of the thread. He doesn't seem to require multiple viewings of each.

My answer has to be The Avengers.

I'm not sure if I voted in this other thread putting Avengers against TDK. However I did immensely enjoy my first ever viewing of TDK so certainly that would be closer for me.

How about you come up with an argument instead of resorting to one of your standard evasions?

I didn't mean children, per se.

The spectrum has been broadened, but the majority of them are still geared towards pre-teen to early 20's. There are exceptions, and it's obvious which ones are written primarily for older, more experienced, and more mature adults.

However, no one is going to mistake even the best written comic book for Dostoyevsky.

Is that why Iron Man 3 is trying to get more serious :monkey1

It's not gonna get that serious. It's going to be a little more serious but it's not gonna be a dramatic shift from what I could tell in the panel.

Whichever way you categorize them, Nolan films > anything Marvel has put out :lecture

4 Nolanites I'm sure that's the case. :lecture

Avengers was great for all the action and the occasional joke but, the ending felt too Bayformer IMO so, TDKR slightly beats out Avengers for me.
