Gutted in terms of they deserved the win, but in terms of the group it'll add some much desired tension to the remaining games. Dead rubbers are largely something to cringe at. Costa Rica vs England... who wants to endure that? I'll still enjoy Australia v Spain though... will Spain salvage a shred of dignity at the expense of the lowest-ranked team in the tournament, or will they completely and utterly f&*k up their entire finals campaign with three consecutive embarrassments. The fact that this question is even being asked is humiliating enough.

i'm cheering for Oz tomorrow. :lol
spain can go home, but they'll leave their ballz behind. :woo

Winning would help and it's not because it's viewed as a girl sport that soccer isn't more popular. It's really quite popular here but obviously not as popular as other sports on the professional level. There are multiple reasons like some people want more scoring, don't understand the rules, hate the acting by some of these players, etc. It will get there and be even more popular and the better the national team does the more popular it will get. Here in Kansas City it's a real pain in the ass to get tickets to our MLS team, which just happens to be the defending champs in our pro league.

It's been a long slow road for the US when it comes to local interest, but it's on the up - especially with you saying that local games are well attended. I thought '94 would've had more of an impact locally than it appears to have had from an outsider's point of view. I really hope that the ugliness surrounding Qatar's bid will see Qatar stripped of their right to host in '22 and the tournament awarded to the US instead.

Without Tim Cahill, Australia might as well be three players down right there. Still, except for a poor first half against Chile, they've played three decent halves of football so far - enough for me to be disappointed if we (almost certainly) lose. Come on you koala-shagging, vegemite-chomping, Aussie Aussie Oi Oi yobbos :woo

Sorry for my British peeps here, but I'm cheering for Costar Rica :yess:

They'd get 3 WC champions if they beat England. :rock

I don't think the English supporters on this board would expect any less :lol

I hope US and Germany draw... thatll make both of them qualify. However Im not sure Germany are going to want to be that liberal and will probably want to go for a straight win to ensure they are top of the group (which they will be even if they draw) However for the US a loss would make things very very dicey. Ghana too need a US Germany draw to hope they can make through if they win, so do Portugal. Group G is really really on a knife edge now.

BTW I write for a Football Website... one of my latest articles was a Preview of Group G if you guys are interested you can check it out. It was published days before the World Cup started talking abput the possible tactical things the teams would do and what could be the probable game changing scenarios.

We only need a draw :gah: no De Rossi in midfield :gah:

I don't want to go home yet!!!!!:monkey2 :monkey2

I think it's the US' overall excessive pride about what is the world's more popular sport. I mean, they call it soccer for starters... Considering US football should be called passball or something like that.

Also, the NBA considers their champion a World Champion, Baseball, World Series?

It doesn't get more arrogant than that...
Ignorant comment. You know where the name comes from, that's right the modern investors. As for the rest if we are so arrogant and so bad you can move back south across that border.

winning would have a huge impact, sadly now it could go the other way depending how things go. If we don't move on and Ghana does I think it will be a huge setback in the US. While some will totally understand the tie breaking here but many will just go back to the stupid game mentality when they learn we don't go on based on # goals for and against before head to head ever comes into play.

HA.

Watch Ronaldo single handily destroy Ghana and all to no avail as those old pals (Klinsmann and Low) will both get the result that they need to qualify.

Today's/Tonight's predictions -

Netherlands 3 - Chile 2 (I'm really looking forward to this game). :yess:

Australia 0 - Spain 1

Cameroon 0 - Brazil 3

and finally...

Croatia 2 - Mexico 2

I think America's displays of national pride whenever their sports teams are in action can come across as a bit overbearing to people from other countries who don't really do the whole patriotism thing to the same degree but at least they get behind their team regardless of anything else.

Better that than what occurs with England where you have a large section of the support that spends more time hurling bile at players because of what club they play for or because of their jealousy that they're paid stupid amounts of money than actually wanting them to do well as a representative of England.

I'll be watching Holland and Chile later. I expect LVG to rest a few players to avoid risking injuries for the knockout stage.

I may also watch Cameroon and Brazil.

Imagine if all Americans rooted for the US vs the country they left to "live the American dream" or the county there family came from.

the website for the spanish channel Univision will play the games online for free I think. Or at least they will play one on tv and one online.

I plan to have both playing at the same time
