Hi everyone, I’m back again. First let me apologize for going “underground”, but due to my studies and the direction this thread was going, I decided to just focus on what I had to do. I had a REALLY busy time these last few months. My school projects where really time consuming since I had the misfortune of ending up in groups with people who didn’t know anything about programming, so I had to do all the coding myself.
To give you a “collectors-perspective” of how busy I was let me list the figures (excluding all kit-bash items) I received in the last couple of months: Iron Man Mark II, LOLA, HT Godfather. They are all still in their shipping boxes. Only thing I did was check if they where complete and had nothing broken; Repack them and put them in storage. They are still in storage. I HATE having figures in storage
.
Even with my busy schedule I still squeezed in a lot of time working on the Bat-Signals. But truth be told, I’ve miscalculated the hell out of the build-time. First I’ve thought that it was due to my studies, but for the last 4 to 5 weeks I’ve been working full time (at least 6 to 8 hours a day) on the batsignals. And before those weeks I recall telling the first-batchers that I was at 80% build-completion (excluding painting/assembly). It’s simply ALOT of work. I think that’s why I had the word “FINALLY” in the title of this thread in CAPS. I do remember it feeling like an eternity, but when I builded mine I also had stop quite a few times due to school projects. This is probably why I miscalculated the build time. Anyways, back to the Bat-Signals.
The Bat-Signals are FINALLY done. Here are some pictures.
The on in front is mine with the takara on top of it.
I’m going to let the dark knight himself ask the question.
Beautiful, isn't it?
Even though they look the same as mine, they’re not. They are in most aspect BETTER than mine. Construction-wise they are stronger, especially in the moving joins. They are also lighter than mine. With exception of the projector light, all the other places that have a light have been covered with mirror-film to intensify the light coming out.
Electrically we also did some changes. On my version the (remote) receiver was on the inside of the little box directly underneath the projector. But due to the layers of plastic, aluminum-film, primer, alum paint and clear coat the coverage of the remote goes from 10 meters to 10 millimeters. Therefore we decide to separate the receiver from the circuit board and move it to the outside of the batsignal. Like illustrated in the following image at point “C”.
Visually I’ve changed a few minor things. See the above photo at point “A” and “B”. These where things that totally pissed me off, but that I had forgotten until
Riko posted two pictures
[1] &
[2] of the real batsignal and jugged my memory and re-pissed me off. Lol. Both time Riko was complementing me. On the outside I was thanking him, but on the inside I was like: “Damn you Riko…..”.
. So I had to change those things and now they are nice with sharp edges and more accurate.
I’ve also changed the way the symbol is attached. This is mostly to ensure that they don’t break during shipment. Mine broke 3 times when I was attaching it. There is only so much superglue can do
.
Sadly not everything is better. There are some issues with the paint. I had a hard time trying to get the paint to attach to the plastic. I use everything the same as on mine. So, I’m not sure what the deal was. I think it had to do with the weather. The weather was changing from cold to warm repeatedly in a short period of time. Most of the paint issues where on the inside. I’ve tried to fix them as gently as possible without adding extra layers of paint to prevent detail loss. Fortunately the outside of the batsignals are in good condition.
Also two of the first-batchers won’t be receiving a remote version because during assembly we noticed that two of the batsignal didn’t react to the remote. Apparently the receivers (or circuit board) had become damage at some point. Since the receiver and the circuit board where sealed/glued prior paint, this means that to fix that problem would require the breakage of the batsignal. And thrust me, the way I build them, you'll need really break them to the point of no repair to get to the parts. So that was not an option. The good thing was that, like I said before, we changed the way the electric system works in order to have the receiver on the outside away from the board. This allowed Elektro to hijack the electric system and still get those two batsignal to light up by using the normal on/off button. To compensate those who get these non-remote batsignlas, I’ll add something extra
.
I’ve like to also take this moment to thank all the first-batchers for their patience and support. You guys were awesome. I didn’t even get one PM from these guys requesting update or putting any sort of pressure on me, even though they had paid and had a right to do so. Any customizer should be happy to have you guys on their list.
Non First-batchers please read the next post since it contains important information.
