re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Ran 18 miles yesterday
Then lopped off half my thumb on my wifes new chopper
Have two days off
Gap on thump was chemically fused together
Hurt like hell

You know what they say about guys with big thumbs. Big buttholes.

First, thank you...I've never seen that in its entirety. Especially loved the Tatooine Graffiti scenes. ;)

Second..."...started to nationalize commerce in the central systems..." man ... Lucas was already into Trade Dispute territory back then.

But I see where it comes from. He was clearly heavily influenced by Frank Herbert's Dune, which contained a lot of complex politics and socio-economics. Better suited to a monster epic sci-fi novel than a space opera.

Yeah some of those scenes make the PT and even the SE changes make a lil more sense why they ended up the way they did.

Uh-huh. I don't know how familiar you are with Herbert's work, but Lucas as a writer wasn't fit to change his typewriter ribbon. We know Lucas made a great popcorn-space-opera, but the parallels between Dune and SW off the top of my head (some comparisons are a bit broad, others not so much:

Dune: Emperor and Sardaukar
SW: Emperor and Stormtroopers

SW: Tatooine, Desert Planet w/ Sand People
Dune: Arrakis, Desert Planet w/ Fremen

SW: Trade Federation
Dune: CHOAM

SW: Spice
Dune: Spice

SW: Luke Skywalker
Dune: Muad'dib

SW: The Force
Dune: The Weirding Way

SW: Jedi Mind Trick
Dune: The Voice

Huh? Not sure what that has to do with what I said but ok.

No, I've never seen a therapist. Don't think I ever will. The things that bother make me feel that way because of who I am, and I don't think anyone could convince me to stop thinking the way I do.

Of course you don't have to listen to me but I feel an obligation to say something - I saw a therapist for a few weeks when I had been unemployed for 2 years and was really depressed and just a few sessions gave me a lot of tools that I use to this day. We're not supposed to be unhappy all the time. :) :duff

I also recommend beer and whores, lest I come across too helpful and nice.
