As an Englishman I'm currently cheering on anyone but my own country as I don't want to associate myself with the English support as a large percentage of them are frankly morons. I really hate all the fake displays of patriotism that goes on every time England or should that be Ingerland take the field and these idiots just use a football match as an excuse to get drunk and act like total *********. All the flags that people stick on their cars, houses, etc always disappear instantly when the inevitable happens and England get knocked out and I think if these people really loved their country so much the flags would remain all year round regardless of whether there was a football tournament or not. The constant references to England's one and only win in 1966 get a bit grating as well. In that time Brazil have won it 3 times,Argentina & Germany twice each plus reached finals they didn't win but even so that's a hell of a lot better than England have managed in the last 40 years. As for this years tournament I should think one of the usual suspects will take away the trophy,Argentina look very strong and will take some stopping and despite a dodgy opening performance Brazil will no doubt improve as the tournament progresses and the Germans can never be written off even if they don't look as strong as some of their past teams.

I could'nt have said it better myself. Im steering clear of pubs to watch any of Englands matches. Simply because as with past tournements, If England have been knocked out, people get angry and want a fight. Your left with a bunch of folk who'd been singing, chanting suddenly wanting to knock seven shades of **** out of oneanother. Weird really.

As for the football, I said if England couldn't win it then my money would be on Argentina, Spain or Italy. I think history will stop Brazil winning.

Cmo'n England!!!! (goes to garage and gets out flags.....) kidding! im not into that either.

Love playing soccer, or at least I used to when I had great stamina. My soccer coach in high school begged me to play but I played baseball 9 months a year and thought I had a future in it.

Anyway, love playing it, hate watching it. I can appreciate the athleticism and skill but it's just very boring for me to watch.

Wow... what a game by Argentina! Exciting and goals galore!

They are definately a team to watch out for. It would be interesting to see how Holland fares against them in the 3rd round grp matchs.

That's one match I am looking forward to see! They have been rivals for quite some time now and I think this'll be one of the best matches of the entire tournament.

The USA did a pretty nice job today against Italy. The ref. really had an off-game. He was acting like a total douche and handed out cards left and right. US still has a chance to make it to the next round if they win against Ghana, but they better start thinking up a new strategy.

That ref was terrible! The Mafia must have paid him off or something because there is no excuss for calls that bad! 3 Red cards and an own goal! That doesn't happen very often.

Now, ironically, we need Italy to win to have the USA even have a chance of moving on. I guess I'll be cheering for England and Germany, they at least have a chance. Anyone but Brazil needs to win.

Yep, me and my bro (5000 miles apart) agreed that as a part of the Italian football scandal they should check tonights referee. If he had not been paid big money then my name is Donald Duck!
It should have been 2-1 to the US and they should have finished with 11 men and 2 yelllow cards. Spooky that a blatant Italian sending off was followed by TWO US dismissals, for like what?

Oh well if England show the same amount of guts as the US we might just win the damn thing!

That one goal by Italy, which wasn't counted because it was supposedly off-side was a bad call as well. The score should have been 2-2.

Torres: Tolkien fan! https://www.theonering.net/scrapbook/group/1899/

SURELY everyone else watching Spain must have noticed as well as me!
AND he's HOT too. So all in all he's not my favourite foreign footballer :D

thats awesome!! im not huge LOTR fan, but i was thinking about getting my name tattoed on my shoulder in Tengwar (is that the right name for the language??)

They played an awesome first half, but the second half they just couldn't put a play together. Australia has advanced but the US is out! THe two matches I am looking forward to are Germany/Sweden and Portugal/Netherlands. Real intense matches because all teams are evenly matched.

I'm American, a woman and love to watch football. Arsenal is my Premiership team. Of course I'm for England but Australia is getting to be a favourite too. I've watched all the WC matches except when I had to be at work. I only follow the UK teams and don't watch US "soccer."

Man....what a statement!!:D You are good woman! :naughty
But I for one don't want the England to win!! Germany is my favorite and I usually watch the Bundesliga and occasionally other European leagues. But never the MLS!

Well I have to say I am absolutley drawn to the t.v when Brazil plays. So far this world cup has been awesome to watch. It would have been nice to see the United States to do a little better but anything can happen in the world cup.

what's with the no love for the MLS?

I know that the level of play can't even begin to compare to European clubs, but the games can be fun, tickets are cheap, and a lot of players get snapped up to play overseas. Okay, so that last part sucks, because the MLS is just a feeder league, but it can still be fun! The play just seems...slow sometimes compared to what else is available:eek: .
