No doubt all the usual excuses will come from Beckham and co but the plain fact is that they weren't good enough (again). No doubt all the deluded Ingerland fans who actually thought they had a chance of winning the tournament will console themselves by coming out with the usual "we won the war" or "we won in 1966" BS as they cry into their beer
Somehow I think most of the flags that people have been sticking just about every place you can stick them will have vanished by this time tomorrow.

it was probably the best game so far.england had chances even with one man sent off.they went down fighting right to the end.to little to late.
as soon as it went to penaulties i new it was over.they did there best and for
engerland fans theres no shame in believing in winning the world cup,just not this time.as soon as people stop believing in a dream what ever that might be

Looking at what you said, I pretty much agree with your view. The longer any team stays in a tournement, the more their fans start to believe in them. Rooney getting sent off was tough tits! **** happens. You have to roll with it.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a sad fact that England players and penalty shootouts don't go together. Maybe next time an England match goes to pens, they should just congratulate the other team and walk of the pitch

Believe it or not I'm English!!. I just get tired of all the hype and BS that comes from the media and the more moronic element of English fans. All the fake patriotism gets a bit grating too,already on my street a house (not mine ) that was covered in flags this morning is now devoid of anything resembling a St George flag which I think shows how genuine a lot of these people are,any true patriot would fly the flag all year round IMO. I think if more England fans were totally honest they would see that they just didn't have enough (or any) world class players to be in with a realistic chance of going all the way,but as usual it will be the ref's fault

I am very happy the this World Cup has turned out. Brazil, Argentina and England, all three are out. This means Germany has a greater chance of winning!

Actually, I wouldn't mind if Portugal wins too because they really deserve it....IMO.

england to me didn't play well at all and didn't deserve to progress so i won't be sad that they are eliminated. however i'm disappointed that brazil is out.

the reason why i have been supporting them all these years is because of their football. but i have not seen any attractive football really this time round, what's up with them.

i think both germany and france have a good chance of winning.

Just kiddin bout the scottish jibe I think you have hit the nail on the head. I went to play golf this morning and coudn't see one flag in the streets. Oh what a difference a day makes. Looking at the tournament, England didn't deserve to progress. Rooney will always have a temper. It will be interesting how he, ferdinand and neville react to ronaldo when they all get back for pre-season training. He said to rooney at the start of the match he would get him sent off. lets face it. not difficult really

Personally, I will be wanting France v Germany final with a win for the French (seen as its a last hurrah for most of them)

The Germany Vs Italy game was suprisingly good with the Italians actually deciding to show what they can do without resorting to their usual cheating ways. I was suprised that Germany lost and think that France will now win the tournament. Meanwhile the England team have arrived back home and are giving me a chuckle at their lame excuses,one of them being a quote from from Peter Crouch where he said they lost the penalty shoot-out because "they were too tired playing with 10 men" which is pathetic,especially considering these players probably earn upwards of 50 grand a week. By comparison Tour De France competitors ride for 4-6 hours a day for 21 days with only 1 rest day in that time and have been known to finish stages with bad injuries such as a broken collarbone and they don't earn anything like the amount footballers do,yet despite this you never hear them whining.

Okay....I can finally post in this thread again. After Germany's defeat yesterday I was too upset to talk about soccer. Germany played an excellent match against an excellent team, but the out-come was unfortunate. The good thing that came out of this World Cup for Germany is their pride and their fans. Germany had been struggling for some years to come up with a decent soccer team, and I think they have finally found one. All the players are very young with a lot of potential. This team will be one to reckon with in the next world cup. As for this world cup, I hope Portugal wins because they haven't won a world cup yet.

England, Ive been supporting England all my life (where were you when Lineker equalised against germany) but stopped supporting the team during the beckham circus. If ever there was a more overrated piece of hype, beckham has got to be it.
And the thought of seeing Beckhams face plastered everywhere for the next 40 years would have made me sick had we won the tournament. Glady, we didnt and even more happily, Beckham has jumped before he was pushed.
I can start supporting England again

Germany, I think you can see potential 2010 winners there. Very young squad and playing well together already

As for the France vs Portugal game. I would love to see Zidane and co lift it and it would be a great turnaround for a team written off years ago.

Nevertheless, it will be a great game tonight and I can see lots of goal attempts, 2-1 to France.

BTW, how rubbish was Brazil !

couldn't agree more on the lame excuses from the english. i mean they kept complaining about the weather, pitch and now tiredness...

it is as if they are the only team in the world cup. all other teams were subject to the same conditions and they aren't complaining! those kicks that were saved by the portugese keeper were very poor although they were on target. how much strength does a professional player playing in a top league need to take a penalty kick??? - reference to couch's comments.

italy vs france final... both equally are good enough to win it. but sadly we could well be seeing a final with just a 1-0 score line or worse penalties. why? because the italians have only conceded 1 goal and the french 2 goals so far. the italians have scored 3 goals more than the french but 2 of those came very late in the extra time against the germans. so i reckon a very close match.
