One thing that came good out of this train wreck of an idea was the return of merchandising of the old school products from the original films :yess:

Yep. That's why I tend not to be bothered by reboots of old movies like RoboCop/Terminator/Ghostbusters, etc. RoboCop 2014 prompted the fantastic new HT figures and 4K blu-ray. Geninsys prompted a nationwide theatrical re-release of T1. If the reboot is entertaining then that's gravy, if not then you still get the originals temporarily put back in the spotlight.

Ugh! Trailer played in-front of X Men, and sadly, people in the audience were laughing quite a bit.

Played in front of the advance screening of ninja turtles 2 my son and I went to watch here in Australia and it got the exact opposite reaction from the crowd. Not one person laughed, not one I **** you not.
Restored my faith in humanity.

Same here. It played before Civil War, but nope, not one person laughed.

Sooooooo... If you think this movie looks bad, that means you think Trump would make a great President?

:rotfl :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

Personally I'd like to throw this movie and Trump into the same heaping pile of refuse, never to be seen or heard from again.

MODS we have some political egging, remove this! No jk :lol That be political correctness. :rotfl

I'm only mildly looking forward to this because Spy was really good and had awful trailers. I love Ghostbusters, but after the first I really don't care about the 'franchise'. They can do whatever they want to it. Doesn't matter. If this movie sucks, it sucks.

But I do think the misogyny around this film is disgusting and ****ed up. Like, hate this movie because it looks bad, not because it stars women.

it started already:

only sexist woman-hating supremacists dislike this apparently lol. movie has not even come out and people are already getting ready to portray any dislike of this as coming from wife beaters.

what will be interesting is what will happen when women give any negative opinion, thats whats tricky. how will they analyze that opinion

Who cares? These PC idiots will do this every time now so they can label me however they like and I'll wear it as a badge of honor.

I'm not supporting this movie in theaters to counteract the bullying by lobbyists. Haha. That'll show them! :slap:mad:

some people say this will burn and crash and other people are hopeful it will be a huge success and double its budget. I really, really cannot say what will happen.

An awesome premise and terrible actresses, normally separated by 32 years, have just been thrown into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?

It'll be a wash and make back its budget. The whole war of the sexes publicity could drive more women into the theater. It depends on whether they actually have a life. My wife didn't even know the movie existed until we watched the news and they did a story about the trailer being the most disliked movie trailer on YouTube. She still doesn't care to see the movie though.

Eh. I don't think most women really care much. My wife thought the first one was "fine", and wouldn't even have noticed this one if not for my hostility. There are a small contingent of women who were fans of the first and who'll see the second without any 'social justice' motivation, but I don't get the feeling it's all that many. And, despite how noisy they are, most women aren't feminist tumblr slacktivists.

My guess ... it'll do slightly better than, maybe as much as double, most Melissa McCarthy comedies. The other three chicks have no following whatsoever. Among men, the Ghostbusters name will draw a few old fans along with the conspicuous egalitarians (who will see it because it's "the right thing to do") and nerd-ragers (who will see it so they'll be able to focus their hatred more precisely). All the noise surrounding it will draw those who want to make some feminist statement about it being a good idea to remake men's comedies for women. McCarthy does draw some, but not a lot (her movies tend to sell $20M-$40M).

So, I'd guess maybe $60M-$80M. Maybe $100M-$130M due to aggressive advertising. It'll probably have a pretty good opening weekend, though. Might fall off fast thereafter.

I like watching directors grow and try new things, so regardless, I'm interested in seeing this just for that.

I just hope that if this movie isn't very good, the movie stands on it's merits and it's merits alone. It won't though, but I can hope. :(

I think the movies gonna be a hit. I'll see it in theaters if it has good reviews.

I don't know why people are claiming Kristin Wig or Melissa McCarthy are bad comedic actors. The other two are from SNL and aren't bad either, plus you've got Thor and the original cast making cameos.

directors trying new things is not the problem, the problem that ruins movies is lack of passion or lack of interest. he was offered this 3 times and turned it down 3 times,
that doesn't give much confidence. and you could say (well he changed his mind, he realized he could do a good movie)

But it never sounded like that was the case. I still to this day do not understand what made him change his mind besides a bigger paycheck.

I mean, sometimes people don't want to touch something that they're so close too. JJ Abrams passed on Star Wars at first because he's a massive fan of the series and didn't want to ruin it.

Some people want to dig their hands in a world they love, others just go "Nah, I'd rather not **** it up." It's not really that hard of a thing to understand. I mean, the truth of the matter is, we have all ideas that we think could make a good sequel, remake, whatever to our favorite franchises....but imagine getting a chance to make it. The pressure would be insane.

And Feig is feeling all of it. I feel bad for him. Fanboys for the most part are pretty lame, and honest to god this **** doesn't matter one bit. Ghostbusters 3 was never going to happen, and if it did, it would've been Crystal Skull levels of no one giving a ****. The only people who wanted to make a Ghostbusters 3 is basically Dan Akroyd and Dan Akroyd alone. And Ghostbusters 2 is a real bad movie that no one enjoyed making. And you can see that, and that ruins the film. It has moments, because that whole team of filmmakers are brilliant and they're bound to **** out an idea that's above average. But on the whole, it's a retread of the first but without the spark.

I just don't get why fans want that again. At least this one seems (so far at least) like it has a tiny bit of spark to it. But we'll see.

Also, you do realize that the cast and crew of Ghostbusters came from mostly SNL and SCTV right? And they made pure comedy films before that, right? Bill Murray in Stripes is just a different shade of Venkmen. And Caddyshack is just him doing a funny voice.

He is a good actor, but that's because he's a good actor. Being a 'comedy' only actor isn't really a thing, because you can't be funny or interesting if you're not a good actor.
