Re: GI JOE 25th Anniversary

I've lost touch with these slightly. The sculpts overall are favtastic, but the paint (especially on the Joes) has been pretty crappy, Ace and Spirit come to mind. I did get a nice looking Mutt though and couldn't be happier with that figure and aside from his eyes Quick Kick is one of the best figures so far. I still say the Cobras get more love from Hasbro, the paint apps always seem cleaner and the face work (on those that have faces) is usually pretty good. A few of my Joes however looked like they came from the first waves of the Indiana Jones line.:horror

When I look at the line overall, I agree with you. The real gems in the line are marred by all the repainted Dukes, Cobra Commanders, Destros, Storm Shadows and Snake Eyes, and cheaply done figures that use too many parts from other figures. Quick Kick and Mutt are great figures, though, you're right.

Here's a quick comic I made.

Re: GI JOE 25th Anniversary

Got some more yesterday.

I got:
Airborne
Cobra Eel (I really wanted this one).
Specialist Trakker
new Zartan
Cobra Flint

I have extras as usual.

So my question is, where is Dusty, Lowlight, Airtight and some of the other older joes?

Airtight is listed as an exclusive in a 2-pack on BBTS I think? Was very expensive (like ~60ish for 2 Joes) last I saw. Really kinda sucked, I'd like to see him at some point :(

Re: GI JOE 25th Anniversary

Anyone notice that the paint on the figures from the two pack are not as nice as the single carded figs... Just an assumption, the only two pack I've found worth buying for me was Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow and the Crimson Twins?

edit: I might go for Ripper and Torch though in the future, it's working on me every time I see it....

Re: GI JOE 25th Anniversary

Sucks about Airtight and I am going to check out the DVD sets tonight. \

I have noticed that the paint on some of the Comic Packs are less then decent. The twins 2-pack was good.

Re: GI JOE 25th Anniversary

Two new Box sets just unveiled!
Gi Joe:
-Snake-Eyes v2 (Black) w/Timber
- Lady Jaye
- General Hawk
- Flint (w/short sleves and gloves)
- Shipwreck
https://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=9&itemid=13671

Cobra:
- Storm Shadow
- Baroness
- Cobra Commander
- Zartan
- Cobra Viper
https://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=9&itemid=13672

They're re-released characters with some major improvements!
  • Flint now has the new improved arms with gloves on in his original costume and a new but terrible looking head
  • Stormshadow now has completely bare arms (looks Awesome!)
  • Cobra Commander now has a gripping left hand instead of a fist and a new head
  • Baroness now has a new better looking head
  • Cobra Viper has new hands and chrome faceplate (maybe new helmet sculpt)
  • Shipwreck has a completely new head, arms (no more Popeye arms!) and Legs (no more bell bottoms!)
  • Lady Jaye now has new swivel wrists, as well as a completely new body head to toe with an up turned collar and even a brand new head sculpt.
  • Snake Eyes has a different paint job as well as a new backpack and new Timber Wolf.

(Edited with more info)

I'm not sure how the other figures have been improved if at all, Lady Jaye and Snake Eyes look identical to the DVD pack versions.

Lady Jaye now has a single piece long javelin.

Well, the Snake Eyes DVD version is more accurate to the original 1985 V2 Snake Eyes, except that instead of being purple ("cartoon colours") he's black/dark grey, and he comes with an awesome new Timber rather than the old one, which was just a recoloured Valor vs. Venom wolf. Personally, I think he looks just about perfect and will be my default V2 SE.

Lady Jaye - may - have swivel wrists. For some reason, she didn't in earlier versions.

I think they should have left Shipwreck with the "Popeye" arms and given the slimmer ones to Flint. At least they sort of make sense on a sailor.

On second though they should have gotten rid of the Popeye arms entirely.

Re: GI JOE 25th Anniversary

Ok so now we have more remakes, this is exciting but I don't see the logic...?

Well, at least they're improved instead of just simple repaints. I know I now want to buy these two sets even though I have or will have most of the characters represented there in those costumes (I'm missing that version of the Baroness).
