It is. And we arent.

Stockholm Syndrome, eh? :lol

No Irish. What we have here (while I agree with your statement about the greatness of the movies we got as kids in the late 70-s into the 80s--though you forgot to mention Back to the Future :thwak) what we see here is a clear example of what is sometimes called the generation............................................................................................................................... gap.

That's because I kept the movies to ones that were released between 1980 - 1982, when I was 8-10. Had I extended it from, say, 1975 - 1987 there would be a myriad of other legendary classics in there, with of course BTTF being one of them.

Which just furthers my point... it's not a "generation gap" at all. The huge blockbuster Summer movies were just infinitely better back then than they are today. I honestly can't even see how it's debatable, Sure there are gems here and there but nowhere near the amount we grew up with. Were it not for Pixar and a few rare recent genre classics I'd totally feel for today's kids.

Preaching to choir Carl. I am just saying you are opening yourself up to look like this guy:

I believe I've written approx 36.3 trillion words on my love and devotion to this GI Joe Wachowski Brothers leather breasts and heels fetish ninja movie but If I'm being tossed on a desert island with only 1 movie then I'll kindly take with me Raiders of the Lost Ark, thank you very much.

I just tried to show my nephew Raiders, after we went and watched The Taking of France 123 and he looked at me 10 minutes into Raiders and said....."Uncle Joe, when can we go back to see GI Joe, I don't like this movie"

Hey, can't blame the kid, I guess Raiders could benefit from having more stiletto heels and less chimps eating poisonous fig dates.

Question: Am I going to Hell? :dunno

Man, your list just got owned! :lol

Saw it today and although I know NOTHING about the Joe legacy (I played with the real joes - all 12 inches of them), I thought the movie was okay. About on the level of Transformers 2. They had to go to great lengths to try and fit some things into a more realistic scenario - Destro was a real stretch and the start of the movie was a huge WTF moment.

I really feel sorry for Ray Park though - he never gets to be seen as himself. And I felt sorry for Snake Eyes too - wearing that plastic all the time. Wayans wasn't as annoying as he can be and Tatum wasn't as stupid as he can be - Quaid was great and so were the girls.

Ok.....?

No one deny's this.

Im just not a decade film snob, and I can enjoy movies from more then one era. 80s is the best. I grew up with those, thanks to my dad. But I too enjoy movies today as well. Heck, I even enjoy some movies from the 60's and 70's.

You people spend so much time ^^^^^ing about how bad Hollywood is, that you forget...there was ^^^^ back then too! Epic ^^^^.

And then theres the gold. Sure, there was more gold then....but just because its not gold, it isnt ^^^^.

The 80's are over. But thankfully we can still enjoy all the magic they had with these flicks. So, if you hate movies now, stop watching them. Period. Dont rent any DVD's of films post 80's, dont see any movies post 80's. Ever.

That's what she said?

But I do agree with you. It was an entertaining movie, but not great. The opening scene really could have been cut as it was all explained by Desto when he was holding the mask. But still, it wasn't as bad as the accelerator suits. Brendan Fraser's cameo was also a WTF moment.

I still don't get the whole rubber suit to Snake Eyes. Sideshow's take was perfect. I didn't think Ripcord or Duke were all that great though. Quaid was one of the better actors in the film, but his role seemed a lot smaller than I was expecting.

Zartan and the Doctor were my two favorites though. Zartan was an interesting take on the character and I thought it worked quite well. The Doctor was a great mad-scientist character. I might have even been able to accept him as Dr. Mindbender. But him being Cobra Commander (and his final Commander look) wasn't even close to a good choice. Then him and Destro being locked up at the end was really stupid. I suppose the "president" will give them orders to be released or something in the next film. And hopefully the next film will fix most of the problems with this film.

I agree with you Irish, but our time is over. They aren't making these films for our generation any more. We have been brushed aside. They are taking all the things we love and molding them for the World of Warcrap and Wii generation. All we can do is count our blessings that we grew up at just the right time in history when they were making the classics that would inspire all of the crap that came after it. These kids know absolutely NOTHING of what it was like back then but those of us who lived back then do and nothing can ever take that away from us. It's time for us to stop being film geeks and play golf and go bowling and do all of the other stuff our parents did. It's time for us to move on.

That was a golden age - but there there is still geek greatness, even in this day, although most come from other sources:

Lord of the Rings
the first Matrix
Hellboy
Star Trek (albeit a re-imagining)
Spider-man 1 & 2
Iron Man
Nolan's Batman
almost all of Pixar's output

and I'm sure there are others.

Figured I'd Toss this out there for you dave, since you're not too into the original toy/comic/cartoon storyline.

the opening Sequence about destro's family Is almost 100% out of the original story. For me, this was one of the highlights of the film.

Aside from explaining his family mask, It also covers why he picks Paris as his demonstration target.
