Well Chase we know who cynstryke85 is. Damn Sean you got that seconds after I sent the link to Chase. :lol

Haha Sorry Chase! I actually been trolling eBay for a week or so, and when the last one I saw was at $50 I didn't bite. I searched for this one a figured it was too good to be true.

Keep checking guys. Five other people have gotten the DiD Gimli from that seller -- including me -- so I'm sure she'll put another one up soon. She seems to have a horde of these.

I thought he had cut some lenght from parts of the body?

I don't think he's done that yet --other than trimming the arms to accomodate the gauntlets -- though we've all been talking about cutting the legs to shorten Gimli just a hair. The DiD is a bit too tall, just as the TB is a bit too short.

I want to try to frankenstein both bodies together and see if that works -- top half from TB and bottom half from DiD. Not sure I'm clever enough to get it to work though.

Wow guys, thanks for the comments. The repaint took only 30 min-still need the details done. From the pics I've seen Gimli should be at shoulder height to humans and Hobbits shoulder height to Gimli. Problem is SS hobbits are to tall. If someone took off 1/4" from both the hobbits and the DID Gimli it would look correct. Also the hobbits hs are way to big for hobbits.

For my Gimli:
I kept the brn under shirt but cut the sleeves at a 45' about a 1/2" down from the inside of the sleeve-this allows for the sleeve to be tucked into the DML maile(if you raise his arms the body can show).
The arms where cut back about 1/4"(they looked to long with the TB gaunlets)-also they had a pretty good fit that way and I have not added the ball and socket as it has not been needed.
The maile was also cut but I would advise cutting as little as possible to start.
This way when you push on the gaunlets they will rinkle alittle at the elbows.
I widened the neck hole on the TB-it fits ok but with the cloack on it barely fits. You could use the ball and socket from the TB and drill/epoxy the the socket into the DID neck.
The DID maile was cut at the sleeves and painted darker(still needs to be darker). I really think it more closely matches the picture.

That's about it except that I have the rotocast Gimli and I will cut off the shoulder armour and attach it to the figure.

I really hope everyone gets the DID Gimli-I know I also will keep watching and if I can I will buy him and post so whoever wants one can get one.

Jason, what's wrong with the DiD shoulder 'armor'? It looks good in all the pics I see, better than the TB ones.

The design is printed on the DiD armor. It's sculpted on the Toybiz one and matches the designs carved into the helmet, gauntlet, axes and boots.

Nothing wrong with the DID armour at all but I had the crap rotocast and wanted to see what I could do.
I pulled out the neck post from the TB and cut off the larger ball. I drilled out a hole in the DID neck post.
I cut off the arms from the rotocast, dremeled out the lower portion, cut the inside and pulled it open and over the arm. I think it adds some depth to the arm.

I cut off the back packs and superglued them on the DID belt-also left space for the large axe to fit by placing two skewers on the belt while glueing it down.

Over all I am getting happy.

The TB rotocast one you mean, I see.

I couldn't really tell if the real Gimli's shoulder armor was pliable or solid in the pics. Makes sense to use the rotocast then.

But I only have the choice of the TB fig's soft shoulder armor or thr DiD soft shoulder armor right now, and of the two I think the DiD looks better, best I can tell.

Can someone tell me what the gray cape is that Gimli wears? Doesn't he get a green elfin cloak too?

I was thinking of giving my custom Gimli the elfin cloak that comes with Frodo and leaving Frodo with his vibrant green one. Still haven't decided if I'll even give him a cloak, but it does seem to suit him.

Yep, it should be a dark green. The cloak I have is from the DID Sam/Frodo set. I might grab the Frodo one as my Frodo is currently wearing the bright green one.

Oh, that roto armor does look nice.

How about the boots from the roto? Would they work? Or maybe just the 'gaiters'?

Yeah. Stellar work dwing. You're almost there! I agree that the boots need an upgrade.

On the list is washing the gaiters and boots. I'm going to buff up the boots by adding leathers strips to the bottom inside of the gaiters to make them sit out a bit. The bottom of the clothes will also get a wash of mud.

That's nice scale proportion and what I'd like to see. Everyone uses the Fellowship pic as the only scale reference, but the sizes really did change throughout the film and what you've done works for me.
