I just heard from Kelli, the Gimli seller. Apparently my Gimli sat in the Fedex station she dropped it off at for 5 days. It actually left Florida this morning. :banghead

You know how slow those Dwares travel, having them litlte legs and all.

Sure thing.
TB parts:
Head sculpt
Gauntlets
Neck ball and socket
-pull out of TB neck, may need heat and some prying
-hold SMALL end with plyers and cut off at the LARGE ball

DID:
Body
-cut off about 1/4" of arms above wrist line(arms are to long)
----TB gauntlets should fit snug/you can also pull out TB ball and socket and drill hole in DID arm
Clothes
----if you use the shoulder armour it can come out of the clothing
----there are two straps conecting them, one goes on eash side of the Body
Boots and gaters
Extra if available
Toybiz ROTOCAST:
shoulder armour
-hold at bottom of arm and cut around armour
-cut at bottom of armour
-you will need to dremel/cut out top inside of armour
-cut slice of inside of armour to fit over arm

Here's some comparison pictures: TB 'soft cloth' on the left, both HS and gauntlets are slightly bigger.

Note: helmet on the Rotocast fits very snug on the sculpt and may scrape off the hair paint.

Sorry for the pics, my camera has lost it's flash:monkey2

I just ordered an LOTR stand from ToyAnxiety. I hope Chase is right that we will be jinxed doing this and SS actually announces a 1:6 Gimli. :lol

So Dwing.. which one would you recommend? The Roto or the soft?

eta: I just aw the pics...... Hmmmmm....

If it makes any difference, I'm not 100% satisfied with any head or the boots. The sculpt is good on the TB one, but still too small and the beard is short. I've got some casting supplies as well as hydrospan that I'm planning on using to rework the existing sculpt. No promises, but I hope to have some casts available.

You do that and let us know. The face is there but the beard could be a little longer. Remember you would have to Hydrospan the helmet as well.

Yep, I had mentioned I might try to add some beard length with sculpy pr something... but I haven't sculpted in a long time.

Recommended PARTS so far to BUILD GIMLI (updated):

TOYBIZ clothed figure Gimli (soft figure):

*head sculpt with removeable helmet
*gauntlets
*plastic double-sided ax
*chainmail matches the maile used on Boromir (but may be too short on DiD fig)

DiD Gimli figure:
*ALL clothing -- underclothes, robe, pants, belts, boots, real wood and metal weapons (5 axes) -- possibly even chainmail with repaint.
*Body (a bit tall, may need to be cut down)

TOYBIZ Rotocast Gimli (hard figure):
*head sculpt with removeable helmet (slightly smaller than the clothed figure by ToyBiz)
*gauntlets (must be cut from figure - slightly smaller)
*hard shoulder armor (must be cut from figure)
*rear pouches (must be cut from figure)

DML Chainmail:
*Timeline knights
*Olaf

***NOTE: Althought the same cast, apparently the rotocast hard plastic figure is SMALLER than the clothed 12" figure. The head, helmet and gauntlets as all considerably smaller (especially when you consider the TB Gimli to be smaller than the DiD to begin with). I would advise, if you want to use the TB headsculpt and/or gauntlets, that you go with the ToyBiz 12" "soft" clothed figure for those parts. I'm beginning to wonder is the rotocast version is even necessary beyond obtaining the hard shoulder armor.

Below is the specific instructions from Dwing on what he used and did:

Sure thing.

Hey Wor-Gar, you might want to add the DiD figure's body to that list. Otherwise, some people might think that they only need the figure for the clothes.

And thanks to the Freak who posted the link to that eBay auction. I visited the seller's store via the link and she had another Gimli available, so I snagged it. Let the kitbashing begin! :banana

Thanks for culling all the info together WG it is a huge help... Its looking like I may get the soft version first.

Wanted to add about the DID chainmaile. I cut off the arms and used the body of the maile. You could wash it to remove the glitter. I painted mine with a darker grey mix and the paint stiffens it up a bit. I want to later go darker with it. I think it hangs well and can be adjusted when needed.

Thanks Pix! I hope people find it useful. Let me know if there's anything unclear and I'll fix it.

El Skutto: added the body, good call.

Just so everyone knows: apparently the rotocast hard plastic figure is SMALLER than the clothed 12" figure. The head, helmet and gauntlets as all considerably smaller (especially when you consider the TB Gimli to be smaller to begin with).

I'll add that to the above ref list.

It's amazing how many of these Kelli has...and that she hasn't raised the price that much higher.

Icruise said she's sold 18 in the last couple weeks.

And everyone one of them is here on this board. :)

Remember you would have to Hydrospan the helmet as well.

Depending on how much I increase the size of the sculpt, of course.

I don't think it needs to be much larger and hopefully the existing helmet will still work. We'll see.
