Ahhh... is the scale smaller on the roto armor though? Or is it passable... I think I missed the full-on picture from this recipe.

Actually, why not have someone send you a head to modify more accurately then ship off to another freak for a good casting. You're great when it comes to adding missing details to figures for custom work and with someone else molding your resculpt, it'd be a great team effort.

Does anything really need to be done to the non-rotoscope head sculpt, though? Aside from repainting it?

The length of the beard doesn't bother me at all but if EC thinks he can come up with something cool I would be interested.

No. Either the DiD or TB heads will work. The TB ones are just a bit small for the DiD body. I'm going to try modifying & casting a larger one. Really depends on what look you want and how detail obsessed you are. And, if possible, I really want this one to look as if Sideshow made it, not such a cobbled together look. Dwing has already done a super job with the parts available and led the way on this custom.

if you make the head larger then what about the helmet? i kinda like the removable helmet. it's a big plus for the TB column.

DID gimli is on his way BTW.:joy

Agreed. It's an individual choice really.

To me, the TB one has a great face and expression -- very much looks like Gimli from the film. The beard is a bit short, and more sculpted looking -- more windswept and stylized.

The DiD has a longer beard, but it's so textured as to lose detail in Gimli's braiding. The face could be anybody and the helmet is not shaped properly (doesn't flare out on the sides).

A great painter could make either sculpt work.

I settled on the TB sculpt pretty much because of likeness is there. I am getting ants in my pants to get this going. Too bad the first part ot get to me will likely be the SS LOTR stand. :lol

Great tutorial Wor-Gar!!

I am gonna pick up the "soft", the larger head is more important that the shoulder armor to me.

I think the TB head is 10 times better, great expression, good likeness, and removable helmet :rock

Agreed. I love the removable helmet - even though Sideshow prolly wouldn't have gone that route.

And it depends on how much larger you make the head, natch. Hopefully, I can do what I have in mind without having to alter the helmet. Casting that helmet would be a ^^^^^.

The Gimli headsculpt is fine on it's own, but when compared to the slightly oversized Sideshow heads, they don't look like they come from the same line/company.

Yeah, when I get mine, I think I'll go with the ToyBiz too. The likeness is wholly better, I can live with the shorter beard and it doesn't really look that far out of scale in KD's pic:

If you trim your "hair beard" it will look bigger.

Ooops mean to say "hair/beards".

I think the shot Chase reposted of Gimli and Legolas pretty clearly illustrates that the TB head is in pretty good proportion. Not an issue with me.

I'm just nutty and nit-picky about getting these figures to look a certain way. :duh Wait till custom Merry and Pippin... those are gonna be a challenge.

And it's not that Gimli is off in size and whatnot so much as Sideshow heads tend to be a bit oversized - I'm actually thinking of shrinking the Frodo and Sam heads at some point. And it's not so bad as long as he keeps his helmet on. Still, it's easier to customize Gimli than the rest, and I was planning on a beard resculpt/cast anyway.
