I just heard from Kelli, the Gimli seller. Apparently my Gimli sat in the Fedex station she dropped it off at for 5 days. It actually left Florida this morning. :banghead

Oddly, mine isn't moving either...for two days it still says "departed Fedex location Florida" since Nov 11th...

The flight to LA should take one night...unless he's travelling all over...

It's supposed to be delivered tomorrow, but since it hasn't even reached the Los Angeles station, I doubt I'll get him now before Monday.

Depending on how much I increase the size of the sculpt, of course.

I don't think it needs to be much larger and hopefully the existing helmet will still work. We'll see.

It is such a perfect fit I think ny change would cause scraping of the paint. I hope it can be one as I would like to get one.

Monday is when mine is scheduled... Really no biggie though. This is a project that may take a while anyhoo.

True.

I'd like to get the body and clothing done quickly...the repaint of the head will have to wait until I can concentrate.

I'd also like to see if I can cobble together the two bodies into one perfect sized Gimli (well, perfect meaning a little taller than the too-tall Hobbits but still less-than-shoulder height to humans). The only problem I foresee if that I'll have to glue the torso -- thus, maybe no abdominal movement. But movement of Gimli's short torso might not matter as long as the hips move.

Thats a question I had. How articulated is the DiD and how well does it hold poses?

I don't know. But with the size, it doesn't need much beyond elbows and knees...like the Hobbits; I don't really use much of the articulation on Frodo beyond bending knees and elbows.

I'd like to lean Gimli back and crouch him forward as if ready to kick asss... but at his size it may not even read very well, plus it may make him look shorter. Could probably get the same effect by just pusing his head forward and lower.

Anyway, many question... it's fun though, at least we're getting Gimli at all.

Wor-one thought for you. The TB body is so short and narrow it may make the DID clothing drape over him. Two cuts at the legs and you could shorten him by 1/8-1/4" but beware that the DID clothes will then sit really low on the body. I mentioned in an earlier post that you could cut the bottom part of the outfit and raise it about 1/4" to fit that issue of shortening the DID body.

Good points.

Besides height, the real reason I'm entertaining the idea of putting the two bodies together is to lose the "wide shoulder" look on the DiD body. Gimli doesn't have wide shoulders, and the DiD's are very wide. Yes, TB's shoulder are too much the other way -- too short -- but I can always stuff the shoulders a bit to widen; but I can't take away shoulder from the DiD.

Just a thought. It likely won't work anyway.

Wor I would derobe both and hold up the Tb infront of the DID to see if there is to much difference. Good idea on the stuffing of the shoulders.

Pix the shoulders could be sanded but not much imo.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to risk sanding too much and having the arm bust while posing.

I'll definitely compare the bodies first. And post pics in case anyone wants to try it too... assuming I can get it to work.

hey, dwing. Is there any difference (size, flexibility) between the 2 Toybiz Gimli helmets?

This is most unfortunate about the rotocast figure. Wonder why it's smaller?

EC, obviously this is why you are saying the head is SO much smaller...it is. At this scale, with a little character to begin with, this small amount really matters.

Here's some comparison pictures: TB 'soft cloth' on the left, both HS and gauntlets are slightly bigger.

Yeah its looking like we might have to buy both versions.... The soft one seems easy enough to find though... the other one is a little tougher however.

I ended up buying all 3, the 1:6 ToyBiz, the ToyBiz rotocast and the DiD. I figured that it's worth spending as much as I'd spend on a Sideshow offering (ended up spending way less) and with more to choose from, it'll be easier.

Lord, it looks like I'm going to have to get every Gimli figure ever made to put together a decent one.

Actually, why not have someone send you a head to modify more accurately then ship off to another freak for a good casting. You're great when it comes to adding missing details to figures for custom work and with someone else molding your resculpt, it'd be a great team effort.

Not a bad idea :lecture
