Yeah. Now that I see him nude, I see how flawed the DiD body really is. Those shoulders are terrible. But I like the TB one even less. May go with my original idea of a cut down True Type.

Ok, I got some work done. I painted the shoulder armour and glooves/gaunlets-made them more screen correct. Weathered the boots and gauntlets.
-FUNNY story ahead. After giving the Boots/gauntlets a base coat of mud I did the tooth brush/flicking to splatter the darker paint, I forgot to move the HS away from the body and splattered paint all over the face and beard-so I got to repaint the head.
I used my fingers to rub in the paint on the bottom of the clothes-think it came out ok. He does look better but I'll go over him again down the road.

You know what we need here...? We need a nude Hobbit body with lifts. That would be perfect.
There's one other option: that Aldo or Niko or something, the little Nazi boy by Dragon or bbi. His body is very slender and would be easier to shorten without him seeming thick and squat. I'm pretty sure he's 9" tall.
Anyway, the DiD body is useless to me for anything else, so I may still experiment with it and try to fashion a Gimli out of it.
May also try to see how to lift the TB body. May be as simple as filling the boots with clay or something and posting his legs inside at a taller height (about an inch or so) and then just let it harden. Maybe. At least then I could use the better TB boots.

Yeah, I was writing my post when he posted.... but I have to say Gimli looks fine in his pics, great actually. If I can get mine to look like that, heightwise and all, I'll be fine.
Shoulders still bug me though...but maybe I'm obsessing.
So Jason, did you do anything to the DiD figure's height? Or is that just the regular DiD base body under the clothing with bent knees or something?

In the comparison pic Gimli is standing w/o bent knees but his feet are spread a bit. Frodo is w/o stand(got in the way). I have done nothing to Gimlis height as I don't want to adjust his clothes.
Great work on the paint BTW, didn't mean to neglect that.
If Gimli, in your pic, was a bit lower -- say the top of his helmet was at where his nose is now -- it would be perfect relative to SS Frodo according to that chart that was posted.
Really, Gimli should come up to Boromir's nipples. But given that Frodo is a bit large for a Hobbit, we need to make Gimli larger in the same degree.
I think a small slice out of the DiD body's thigh -- maybe a 1/2 inch -- would solve this issue for those of us who haven't yet built him up.
For those who don't want to do surgery, simply bending the knees a bit will lower Gimli down just fine and create the illusion of proper height.
So it's settled then -- use the DiD body and bend or cut. Don't be anal like me and Entropy Chicken.

I still have plenty of time to decide about the body, other issues to deal with first. The DiD will certainly be the easiest and still look great on display.
Any ideas what to do about those shoulders? Any way to cut or sand or anything?

I didnt realize the height difference was so great Wor-Gar, but if it looks like dwings above I am fine with the DiD body height.

Yeah, I wish I had magic machine and could shrink them both by 10% or so.
Wor-Gor, if you do use the DID body try 1/4" first. I still want him shorter but I don't want to kill the clothes by shortening them by 1/4" also. Buy looking at the pics we might be able to hem(sp) it up behind the belt by doing a 1/4" fold-might try tomorrow and see how it looks. If that looks good I might do surgery but only 1/4" at a time. I think that would put him where he needs to be.
Wanted to add that I pleated the back to narrow tha waist in these pics. Let me know what you think of the boots-sorry not much detail-I'll try better pics tomorrow.

That said, I think Gimli looks small in that 10% pic. Maybe I'm just used to him being bigger with all these pics.
The actual shot from the movie (the still above) is a tough reference, as you could probably find a still frame from many scenes where Gimli's height keeps changing.
Personally, I think the 1/4" cut in the thighs will do it. And I was also thinking about hemming the robe up under his belt to keep it from being too long. I think the robe is too long even on the reg DiD figure. Hemming it up is a requirement.
