Looks great. I did not notice the Roto hands could rotate. The boots look in scale-I thought they would look to small. I noticed on my Roto that the helm was really tight. Paint apps look really good. You might want to wash the maile to get rig of the glitter.

I chose the roto boots because I think they look nicer (more detailed and less plasticky than the DiD ones) and because I wanted to make myself feel better for having bought the roto :). And yeah, the forearms and hands look fine to me. I was originally planning to use the DiD hands with shortened arms, but I don't like the bendy hands and did like the armor on the roto arms. I'd like some mail, but I'm not the kind of person who needs everything to be super accurate. How much does that DiD mail cost anyway?

By the way, I can tell I'm going to have to keep on eye on this guy. Found him in the yard early this morning. Said he was "tracking orcs." :D

really nice.... I can see now that I really do need to get the roto-Gimli for the shoulder armor and boots. :cuss

It is possible that we can have someone like katkuru recast the shoulder armor? It sure would make it cheaper for a lot of us.

I hope to recast them. I'm doing cleanup right now and will pour molds tonight. I'm not sure that it will be much cheaper than buying a Roto, but certainly less work. And the boots are ok, the bottoms are angled a bit and they're still a bit too small, but the details are nice.

What would they be cast in? In my case I dremelled out the shoulder armor, but instead of totally opening it up as shown in dwing's picture below (making it a "C" shape), I left it a hollow tube and just sliced it open in the back so it snaps tightly around the upper arm. Not sure if that's understandable. Anyway, my point is that it's helpful for the material used to have some give to it. Casting it out of resin probably wouldn't do that, so it might be rather loose unless you attach it in some other way.

cast in resin. They will be most likely need to be glued down in some fashion to the maile or undershirt- Sideshow would've done that - rather than the armor simply hugging the arm. Casting hollow, thin items is a ^^^^^ though.

Awesome job dude!
Wow!! Looks amazing!
Congrats!

Terrific Icruise!

Who needs a SS Gimli, right? These all look great!

Interesting that the roto has swivel wrists. That may come in handy. I was just going to use the TB ones and twist the as needed.

Man I am itching to get started on this. :devil

Got to find time for this. Here's two great examples...

Agreed Wor-Gar and pixletwin...My DID is en route, then I have to score the Roto and the soft TB from the 'Bay before I can get started, but these definitely show how great they can look once all the pieces are put together. Short of getting an official SS Gimli in the 1/6 scale, at least we have these we can bash together!

Great work everybody! :rock

Definitely. The rich colors in Icruise's photo really show how nice Gimli looks, he'll really pop with the rest of the Fellowship.

It's still a work in progress for everyone...so I'm sure these will look nearly as good as a SS version once everything is finalized; painting, weathering, outfit hemmed for correct length, all that little stuff.

But I hope can get mine to look as good as the two above.

Customizing is Fun!

Agreed! Especially about the customizing part...that's one of my favourite things about this hobby. Getting the talented wizards on this site like Les, Josh, Mikey, Darren, etc. to help repaint or weather my figures to turn them into one-of-a-kind miniature movie masterpieces on my shelves. :rock
