ok... i've had a toybix gimli for ages... I've been waiting and waiting for sideshow to do a gimli.. and I'm sad now that it looks like we'll never get one. I'm relatively new to sideshow, so tell me truthfully.. what are the odds we will ever see ANY more figs from the lord of the rings line? like 90% it's dead, 10% we might see more?
If this is the case... I guess i need to track down a rotocast, and a DiD gimli... so any help on the DiD one?

a few mre questions. how hard is the roto one to get ahold of, and where are those awesome real chainmaille sleeves from?

You can find the roto and soft Toybiz figures for the head and other parts on Ebay from time to time...There's a lot of us on these boards on the lookout for those figures at a good price though, so expect some healthy competition! :D

The chainmail sleeves are by Dragon for their TIMELINE figures. You can get them loose for a great price here - Just scroll down the list on the right to DRAGON HISTORICAL and click on "Time Line Lord Arnaut".

Not sure if anyone posted pics of them all:
ToyBiz rotocast Gimli:

needed for gauntlets, shoulder armor and boots

ToyBiz "soft" Gimli:

needed for headsculpt and helm

DiD (Dragon In Dreams) Gimli

needed for body, clothes, harness and weapons

Those waiting to get these pieces, I'd act now. I'm watching my earlier statement come to fruition. The rotocast Gimli was only about $12 just a week ago. Now people are listing him at $19 and up! The ToyBiz "soft" version is now more scarce than ever and is $30+ when listed and it's only a matter of time before that "chubby Chasey" smelling DiD starts listing at $50.

whats the difference between the helm on the roto and the one on the soft toy biz?

While essentially what looks like the same sculpt as the "soft" version, the head is smaller on the rotocast (don't know why, it just is). It's not that noticable on the figure alone, but once you have him next to fathead Frodo, it's more obvious. Plus, the headsculpt and helm are a better quality on the "soft" version.

Also the Roto helm seems to be a tight fit and could scrape the paint.

I'm two thirds of the way there. Managed to snag both the DiD and Toybiz soft Gimlis off the 'bay, so I only need the rotocast and I'm good to go.

The only other thing I think I'll replace is the chainmail shirt he's wearing. And I'm not a fan of rubber clothing or accessories, as rubber deteriorates over time. So, no Timeline figure for me. But I wonder if I could use a SS Monty Python and the Holy Grail figure's mail suit instead? I think he'd match up better next to Boromir if both their armours appeared to be made of the same material. Any thoughts?

From this shot it looks like the Sideshow hobbits are too tall. From the movie screen shots the hobbits look like they should be no more than waist high to the humans and elves?

EDIT: Okay, maybe the height is accurate after all. The hobbit figures are a bit bulky making them appear out of scale I guess.

i have them both. ill have to take them out and size it all up in person. as been said. both have pros and cons. the only thing i dont like is the width on DID shoulders. hes way to wide. the toybiz looks more proportionate. as for height, i rather gimli closer to hobbit size than taller. SS shouldve made the hobbits smaller. they are actually the size gimli should have been. but when it comes down to it. hacking and customizing these will look cool. and when posing them strategically (like in the movie lol) it wont matter much.

Harp! Harp!

The Hobbits are too tall... they are (I think) around 9" tall and should be more like 6". But, I think if your Gimili ends up in the middle between the hobbits and other characters he'll look pretty good.

Ok. I redressed Gimli and brought Frodo out of storage:
