This is a very innovative way of shortening the figure. But for people who are reluctant to disassemble the whole thing, I think just chipping his feet off at the joint to the upper leg has the same result, with the exception that it makes his knees too far down. With this figure's baggy pants, this is not noticeable in my opinion. He doesn't actually need feet because his legs are going to be in the boots.

1) I don't think there is anything that can be done about the shoulders. :(

2) My right shoulder was a bit loose at first so I spun a rubber band around it. I had since reglued it and kept my weight on the chest while the glue dried and it now its fine. :)

I need feet though, as I'm sticking with the DiD boots for now. I still think the TB boots look smallish...although a 1,000x better in detail.

Like Dwing, I'm hoping weathering and "mud" will make the DiD boots serviceable to the eye.

I like the body proportions better this way. I disagree about the feet though. even though they are in boots they still do alot of work balancing the figure if its not on the stand.

If you use the DiD boots then yes. They're pretty big. Otherwise, I don't think so. The rotocast boots are a very tight fit and also very hard. I've done this with other figures like my Episode One Obi-wan and haven't had any problem with them standing up.

So why even cut the feet off to begin with? PEOPLE YOU CAN USE THE FEET WITH THE ROTOCAST BOOTS! If you use the rotocast boots, heat them up and slide the feet right in. When the boots cool, they'll fit snug to the feet and be perfectly fine. He still stands and his feet are intact except for the toes which means you'll get a figure who can stand quite easily.

And I think this mod is better than just chopping off the feet because the body itself is left considerably more proportionate. So if you want to pose him in any bent-knee pose, it won't look like his knee is at mid-thigh. Additionally, filling out the midsection will make the shoulders look narrower. I thought I got the suit in today for Gimli but it was a TrueType. So hopefully by Thursday. I'll post a pic then.. This means if you

Well I'll give you that, it is hard. :lol

The point is to shorten the figure. Cutting the feet off shortens the figure by nearly an inch. Your method is the better one, but it's considerably more difficult. That's all I'm saying.

I see what you're saying. Yes I totally agree, yours is easy but it also leaves Gimli with limited poseability leg-wise since the joint's been moved severely. Honestly, the mod looks harder than it is. I'm pretty much the caveman I mentioned earlier when it comes to mods and I did it in about 30 minutes with a razor blade, a pair of needle nose pliers, a piece of clingwrap and a couple of screw drivers. It's considerably easier than chopping off bits of the upper arms and middle thighs and praying the measurements match.

I think if I needed to do it again it would be pretty easy now that I understand what the DiD body is all about. Really with patience it wasn't hard at all.

That was my biggest concern with leg chopping method. I really didn't want Gimli to be lopsided. Doing Nam's method the cropping is perfectly symmetrical.

This is all too cool.... I can't draw stick people....brave souls to be sure :)

Tell you what. If you want, I'll do the mod for ya (PM me about it). It's quick, easy and relatively painless. Just cover shipping to and from. Pix put too much work into cracking open the top abdominal section. That's what gave him so much trouble and he'll admit it. Well, that and his impatience in reassembly. :p

They could be threads stickied in the Custom forums.

I'd say give them their own forum under the Art section and leave the custom forum for showcasing. That way someone who wants to see the awesome work of freaks and/or pay for said work don't have to scroll down all the "How To" threads to get to it. And those who want to learn how to modify can access it directly from the forum index.
