abyobe got any info on getting the soft boots off the body? the feet seem to be permenently attached. And I'm still wondering if anyone can tell me how to better attach the peg from the neck of the soft body onto the DID neck post. failing that, Entropy, the heads you're making, are they designed to attach directly to the DId neck?

The legs are permanently attached and there is no space for a foot in the boot. Meaning they aren't hollow like the roto boots. They need some work, hopefully I'll be able to resculpt and cast these as well - I think most would be more interested in these than a larger/new head.

I'm not sure yet about the neck post. I'm leaning towards a no neck Prometheus/SS Hobbit version like the TB one currently has, but it's always easier casting a neck then dremeling it off rather than attempt to add one after the fact. Regardless, I'll try and make sure they can be used with the DiD since that is what most everyone will be using.

ok, good. I'm having issues attaching the soft toy-biz one to the did body. it just won't attach well enough no matter what i do, so i'll just wait and see what you come up with.

Scored the 'Roto' Gimli from the 'Bay last night for $9. :rock

Can use him for the shoulder armour at least. Maybe the gauntlets and boots and head-sculpt, but it sounds like all of those are 'slightly' bigger (thus better scale) on the 'soft'. Still need to score that one...but at least this is a start. Got the DID and the ROTO!

P.S., pjam, how goes the custom modification? Any more 'tutorials' to share? :D

Just a quick portrait of what I've been able to bash together so far. This is the DiD body with rotocast shoulder armor, gauntlets, boots and head sculpt. The head is noticeably a bit too small for the body, but I've got a TB "soft" Gimli coming in the mail, and will replace the rotocast head sculpt with that one. I'm also waiting for my new chain mail and fat suit to get here. I bulked him up for the shot by Saran wrapping his old chain mail underneath his robe. I also have the roto rubber pouches glued to the back of his harness belt. The DiD body was shortened by cutting out the mid-section of the torso as seen in a tutorial posted earlier in this thread. Once the rest of the components get here I will finish him up by weathering his clothing and will be done with it. This has been really interesting and fun. I'll post pics of the final product when complete.

I had one on my watchlist and eBay decided to empty out everything I had on watch.

What exactly do you search for when looking for the Roto? I can't seem to ever find one. Someone sent me the link to the one I "lost".

Hmmm... they do seem to be more scarce now. You want to try to find the Toybiz 9" Deluxe Poseable Gimli. That would be the rotocast you seek. The packaging is blue and not a full enclosure.

Ok. I boiled off the Roto-Gimli's boots:

IMGP22331.JPG

I also used a saw and chopped off the gauntles/Gloves from his arm and filed down the rough edges on the gauntlet using my wife's nail file. Then I boiled the arm stumps and pulled them off:

Next I broke the toes off of the DiD body and boiled the boots so the feet slip right in as if the TB boots were made for them:

I carved down the DiD neck post and carved out the inside of the TB Soft head until the two fit together nice and snug:

and here he is at this stage:

I still need to get the shoulder pieces off of the roto-Gimli and do some futzing with the clothes to make things seem a bit more in proportion, but this far in the game I think he is looking pretty good.

I LOVE whqt you did with the neck there, I'll likely repeat this process on mine, as it gives me the ability to take his neck off the body for painting!

Great pics, pix. And great work as well on your Gimli.

Just some observations about the 2 Gimlis.

As noted, the head, gauntlets and boots are a bit smaller on the Roto. As you can see in pix's pics, the Roto head is much rougher most notably in the forehead wrinkles.

The boots are basically the same sculpt except not hollow on the soft Gimli and, for some reason, you can't quite tell in the pics, the details are off and asymmetrical between the left and right boot on both pair. I'll try and fix this as well in the resculpt. Also, the soft boots are angled at the ankle in a way the roto boots are not - you can see this a bit in pix's pic.

You can't really see it in the pic, but the detail work is more accurate in the roto helm, though much of the sculpt is quite sloppy. All in all, the soft helm looks much nicer, is a better material, and is much larger than the roto one.

I cut up the soft boots tonight to see if I could salvage some of the work. I cut the gaiters from the boots themselves, hoping to reposition them a bit more flared out and higher up, straightening out the boot in the process. I don't think it's going to work and look the way I want, plus with the mismatched left/right boot details, it'll be less work just to make them from scratch. Oh well. I haven't sculpted footwear before so it should be fun.

It's looking good! What cloak did you use? IMO, it's too short. Doesn't Gimli's cloak almost touch the ground?

dang pix.............you are a bit of a customizer !!!!! you should post that in the customs section as well.............:rock
