GOTG is at $239 million with an expected 16 million added this weekend. By the end of next weekend it should finally dethrone TWS as highest grossing domestic movie of 2014. With an all-star summer line-up of blockbusters who'd a thought that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY with unheard of characters and no big stars would come out on top?

This just further shows how silly WB/DC's reluctance to give B and C listers (and even some A listers like Wonder Woman) their own movies really is. You don't have to be a global icon from the get go. You just have to be in a good movie.

I agree, with a good script, Director and cast, just about any property can be a success. Unfortunately, many of these studios still don't get it though. Many studio's think if you pour enough money into and tick all the formula boxes that the audiences will come. Thats just not always the case anymore.

Is Green Lantern A, B or C? :lol

:lol

Well get this, Box Office mojo is predicting GOTG might take 1st spot this weekend beating out Sin City, Turtles and a tween love story!

If that happens, Holy crap!

Mojo:

That would likely allow Guardians of the Galaxy to move back in to first place in its fourth weekend. The movie was off a light 30 percent to $4.8 million; for the weekend, it should wind up between $16 and $17 million. It passed Maleficent yesterday, and it will become the highest-grossing movie of the Summer (ahead of Transformers: Age of Extinction) sometime today.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For bombed with $2.6 million. That's off a stunning 78 percent from the first movie, and that's with nine years of ticket price inflation and the addition of 3D premiums. It's also less than half of The Expendables 3's poor start from last weekend. The Sin City sequel could theoretically wind up below $6 million for the weekend, though it's more likely that it earns between $6 and $7 million.

Yeah, I'm not sure what else is getting released in the coming weeks, but I'll guess it wont be anything with any real box office draw, so GOTG should be competitionless for a while.

I've seen one preview on TV ever! Next time they should have an advertising budget, I just dont think this has enough of a following to rely on just being thrown out there.

Ok saw this for the second time and really the only thing that still bothers me and it's minor I suppose is when his mom died, he was escorted out of the room and left by himself. I don't get it unless it's some kind of twisted metaphor. Still and amazing movie.

Weekend Report: 'Guardians' Becomes Biggest Movie of the Summer

by Ray Subers

Guardians of the Galaxy

August 24, 2014

After trailing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the past two weeks, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy moved back in to first place this weekend.

In the process, Guardians of the Galaxy passed Transformers: Age of Extinction to become the highest-grossing movie of the Summer at the domestic box office.

Guardians of the Galaxy eased 30 percent to $17.6 million. It has now earned over $251 million, and by Friday it will pass fellow Marvel movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($259.8 million) to become the top grosser of the year. It also now seems likely that Guardians will end its run with over $300 million.

When does this thing get its China release? It's worldwide seems lagging with that market untapped.

I didn't think anything in this movie was tear worthy aside from the opening.

Yeah just the opening got me. Niagara falls for a few seconds. Groot sacrifice almost got me but it didn't and when Starlord finally opens his present from his momma that almost got me as well. Very well done the ending.
