Saw it. Quite like it. I like the fact that the kills are more gory and violent. It is really needed for a modern slasher movie. And the pacing is great basically like a locomotive the moment Myers escapes. I also like how they totally play up this seemingly unstoppable immortal teleporting killer machine that the original inspires.

Love the score too. Can’t stop listening to it on Apple Music since I saw the movie.

Unpopular opinion here but I always felt the original was kinda slow (slow first act), cheesy even (Dr. Loomis and his overacting comes to mind), and really could use more epic kills.

Then again I was an 80s kid so my kind of horror is more akin to the Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead type (my favourite horror genre is zombie), and of course another Carpenter masterpiece The Thing.

In comparison Halloween is really tame and doesn’t give me the same rush.

I know people argue that the original builds up the tension slowly and that is fine and dandy but the payoff doesn’t seem to be worthy. If you are gonna make me wait almost half a movie before a single kill it better be freaking epic all the way to the end and H78 just seems so mild in that regards.

Give me The Thing anyday if I want a Carpenter classis.

Fair gripes about 78 but for me they’re all unfounded.

78 for me is so much more than just a movie about building up to a final butchering climax.

The atmosphere in 78 is so inviting so comforting so real.

The atmosphere that exists in that movie even in the most mundane of scenes is a thing of pure genius.

People always bring up the famous soundtrack but for me the true genius is when the sound effects from Forbidden Planet playing on the tv is used to illustrate the otherworldly actions of The Shape carrying a corpse out in the darkness of the witching hour.

Just like in Forbidden Planet when the space ship was entering a planets atmosphere into unknown dangerous circumstances so was Tommy Doyle’s innocence and The Boogeymen into their lives.

Nope nothing boring about H78 for me, zero, zilch, nada.

The movie is just flat out enthralling for me and has never lost its magic no matter how many repeat viewings I have subjected the movie to and remains one of the few movies that I never fast forward thru any parts of it.

While I might still give H18 another chance and while it might be a decent slasher movie for some and will probably usher in a wonderful slasher movie revitalization the harsh reality is that the movie is trash when compared to H78.

78 didn’t need PTSD as a metaphor to the me2 movement for its genius and elegance to shine.

Nothing in this new one even comes close to that scene I just described.

H78 was never about the kills.

I'm indifferent on some of those rankings of yours but I'm not going to get upset over someone else liking a film and having a different view than mine. :hi5:

I don't see anyone here angry about other pples views, so why are you even saying that? to each their own!

Score was okay, nothing ground breaking. You have to keep in mind this was 1978 as well, as movies go this was ground breaking back then. You sound like a new generation movie goer. No offense but most pple the millennial's like some boring movies. Not all but some. But sounds like you like some old goodies. But in the new one he was suppose to be more human and I didn't see that one bit. So, I really did not like this movie. To each their own I will say, but again we definitely agree with the thing. My all time favorite horror movie by far. So it is what it is. But the original Myers, was by far the best and none will ever touch that one. No matter what pple say about his new movie. It had no comparison what so ever. Peace dawg!

I liked the soundtrack as well. The Shape Hunts Allyson is probably my favourite but I need to listen to the other tracks again.

And as much as I hold H78 in high regards, I've always believed that The Thing is Carpenter's absolute finest work ever. It's never been topped.

Sorry Jye. :chase

I place The Thing in equal footing with H78. :nana:

I am such a huge fan of Halloween, I just found The Thing to be so flawless and the performance of Kurt Russel to be flawless. So, I may have to put the thing slightly higher. Still debatable.

I absolutely love the bwahhhhhws :lol
That’s when you know you’re ****ed lol

It’s curious why they chose the stunt guy they used for the majority, it’s like they felt he had to be close to Myers’s age but that doesn’t really matter when Michael’s strengths are superhuman.

I let my soon to be 12 year old daughter finally watch the original Halloween last night (TV version which was the first version I saw as a kid) and man does that movie still hold up amazingly. I read people here recently saying how it drags until Michael starts killing people toward the end and I thought it just zipped right along from beginning to end.

My fiancé doesn’t do well with scary movies, but ‘78 is on this movie bucket list poster she got me for my birthday so I got her to watch it with me the other night. She got scared but she didn’t get why I like it, she doesn’t get Michael, she was like what’s with the breathing (a favorite feature of ‘78 and ‘18 Michael for me), she thought there wasn’t much point to the story. Being too scared I don’t think she gets slashers.

I will traditionally watch ‘78 tomorrow night, probably also Halloween 2 ‘81 and 2018, got a decent cam rip the other night.

I dont recall the breathing ever in the new Halloween movie. 78 I do very well!

Shanks is still buff as hell but Tyler’s height jeez.

lol @ old dude they went with for H18

Shanks works out at my local gym and I see him practically every time I go, which isn’t often enough:lol

They had him come to Salt Lake comic con a year or two ago and he brought the mask. They really don’t age well so the deterioration they gave the mask in this new film is actually something the mask would have gone through.

I feel like I’m the only one on here who doesn’t have kids lol

Well they are not hard to make.....
But fair warning, maintenance is a expensive *****!
