Watched it again. Pretty much feel the same way about the positives and negatives. Though I liked the finale in the trap house a lot more this time around for some reason.

Sorry. :chase

I personally really enjoyed this film... I was worried when
the Dr. went evil
... Almost lost my **** becasue it was so dumb and I was so into the film and that part took me out of it and landed me smack dab in the middle of part 6... But it ended soon enough and the end was great.

For me its

HALLOWEEN (Original) - 5 out of 5

HALLOWEEN 2 (Original) - 3.5 out of 5
HALLOWEEN (2018) - 3.5 out of 5

Halloween 4,5,6 H20 - 2.5 out of 5

Halloween remake - 2 out of 5
Halloween 2 remake 1 out of 5

Halloween Resurrection - 0 out of 5

I did admittedly like that one scene but it was far from enough to feel satisfying after just how dull and worthless everything leading up to it was.

I am still amazed that this got any positive critical reviews after the generally negative reception to all of the other sequels.

Fair gripes about 78 but for me they’re all unfounded.

78 for me is so much more than just a movie about building up to a final butchering climax.

The atmosphere in 78 is so inviting so comforting so real.

The atmosphere that exists in that movie even in the most mundane of scenes is a thing of pure genius.

People always bring up the famous soundtrack but for me the true genius is when the sound effects from Forbidden Planet playing on the tv is used to illustrate the otherworldly actions of The Shape carrying a corpse out in the darkness of the witching hour.

Just like in Forbidden Planet when the space ship was entering a planets atmosphere into unknown dangerous circumstances so was Tommy Doyle’s innocence and The Boogeymen into their lives.

Freaking great point.. Love that moment.. Absolute perfection. I don't know if I ever thought about it as deeply as you and read that much into it with the film comparisons.. I just thought it was a perfect choice to have that scene playing over the tv during that moment because it works perfectly for a little kid to see something so horrifying and have his own horror soundtrack going on while he watches.

Nope nothing boring about H78 for me, zero, zilch, nada.

The movie is just flat out enthralling for me and has never lost its magic no matter how many repeat viewings I have subjected the movie to and remains one of the few movies that I never fast forward thru any parts of it.

While I might still give H18 another chance and while it might be a decent slasher movie for some and will probably usher in a wonderful slasher movie revitalization the harsh reality is that the movie is trash when compared to H78.

78 didn’t need PTSD as a metaphor to the me2 movement for its genius and elegance to shine.

Nothing in this new one even comes close to that scene I just described.

H78 was never about the kills.

H78 is just about a perfect film.. I can't find a single fault in what you posted. I love everything about the film.

I love the characters in this film. I love the look, the feel, the sounds.

I really love Jamie's two best friends.. PJ Soles is the woman of my dreams... Totally.

I could just go on about everything you said but you put it perfectly.

"We are Haddonfield, couldn't be prouder! Can't hear us now we'll yell a little louder!! "

I agree with some of your score. But no way was the new one a 3.5. I give it a 2 h2o was much better and no way was the new one that close to H two. After watching three times, I just couldn't find anything good to say anything about it other than the mask and some kills!

Oh gosh the layers of genius present in 78 is frightening.

Watch when Annie brings Lindsey across the street over to Laurie the tree limbs are absolutely still.

Now watch when she returns back to the house to get the car keys the tree limbs are eerily and frantically blowing in the wind now!

How about when the actors on TV from The Thing movie say “Lets try to figure out THE SHAPE of this thing!” or “There’s nobody out there... BUT THERE IS SIR!”

Just with The Shape going in and out of frame almost gives him a supernatural quality as if his presence and essence was responsible for the laundry door closing on Annie or the kitchen door creeping open on Paul.

He is such a wraith in 78.

Don’t even get me started on how Carpenter added just one of Shape’s breathing sound to match Bob’s moaning climax with Linda lol just freaking brilliant.

The other amazing thing is that the cinematography ceiling never goes above the tree line or roof line from the houses it’s always pitch black above that line which is something sorely missing in all of the other movies.

The only odd thing I could never figure out was the jumping between The Thing and Forbidden Planet on the tv

One minute it’s The Thing playing then the next it’s FB. WTF Carpenter.

There had to be a reason that was done. Were they switching channels during the Dr. Dementia commercials what.

Wasn't The Thing on at Annie's house and FP on at Laurie's or am I misremembering? Either way I have to agree with you guys, it's really quite an astoundingly iconic movie from beginning to end.

Well I just watched H2O the other night and I found that it has not held up well... Way too much of that 90's feel.

I liked the new film and don't know what there was not to enjoy. It was a bit slow in the beginning with some of the Strode family stuff and like I said I hated the Dr twist but it was all very entertaining to me.

I like Halloween 2 but the Hospital setting got boring really quick and Laurie is basically wasted.

I also never realized how much the sibling thing did hurt the series until I watched this new one.
