You are probably correct but have you seen the number of Jokers on eBay? I think they have over saturated the market with Harley and they will have regulars on the shelf for a long time after shipping. I am still a newb with this hobby but based on tons of research on past statues this looks like an insane amount for ES but definitely hoping I am wrong on this.

Yeah I agree that the bubble will burst soon. SS is heading into production overkill lately especially with DC. And I'm glad someone else has mentioned the insane worldwide number of Jokers on ebay. People are asking crazy prices for them and they sure aren't selling. The PFs of Joker that do sell are selling for under retail these days. I'm only buying Supes and maybe WW. I skipped Batman's PF 'cause I believe they made way too many. I'm hoping to get a Batman Reg for super cheap on ebay soon enough and I'm sure I will. I doubt things will change so I will be buying more hard to come by pieces that are special to me. Probably not buying many more pieces from SS since they're headed into overkill territory.

I think this might be part of the game SS is playing and some collectors just don't like it.

ES is up and the idea might be to keep stock for longer on purpose. Aftermarket values won't skyrocket like they used to, but keeping popular characters in stock for longer increases SS's hold on customers. Make 1000 Batman's and the new collector next year will be crying he missed Batman (and most of us at this point have cried about some character we missed that came before we started. It's a familiar feeling). Make 7,500 and the value won't increase as much, but SS can reach the potential customer it otherwise couldn't with only 1000. It's still collectible, just not as limited as those who've been around for the lower ES pieces would like.

It seems many people judge success by quick sellouts. Understandable, but from a business perspective why wouldn't you want to increase potential earnings over time? There's always new collectors and they'll ensure the large ES on popular characters will still get eaten up over time, and SS will profit that much more. Sucks for collectors who like low ES, but for SS and newer collectors this is good. A year from now some new guy can get a Superman and not break the bank.

This is just a theory. It could be completely wrong. And I'm not defending increased ES, just looking at it from a business POV and not a fan POV.

:goodpost:

SS would have to have their heads buried in the sand not to see the aftermarket prices and not realize production failed to meet demand.

That said, who wants to guess when the EX really does sell out?

:exactly::goodpost: it will burst when collectors tsp collecting for reasons we already know and SS keeps pumping them out destroying what ex used to stand for. Then the huge regs will keep the market filled for a long, long time. Over time people will burn out, move on, quit from rage due to price hikes keep going up, bad cs policies, etc. Then all these will start to return back to market. The time will come. Looks like SS might ave destroy thier own company with greed. Big difference from when they started. My own 2 cents. Oh mine and my brother mistermark :rotfl

Hard Gay 4 Ly... Er, maybe not.. Wait, which thread is this again? :slap

:lol go ahead finish the line! Say it!

:goodpost: yep! Can't agree more.

Big difference from when they started.

No offence CBG but you're wrong about that. I have been collecting SS from the start (back when they were Sideshow/Weta) and I have heaps of their original LotR's lines with both open ES's and ES's in the high thousands and over 10,000.

ES's have fluctuated with the market and demand over the years.

That big ES was for those inexpensive small statues that were selling at a cheap price. NOT for PFs. Large ES is killing the collecting factor of PFs IMO. PFs are supposed to be SS best product... sad that they're cheapening quality and raising ES and prices. It unfortunately won't change and I agree it's about profit but it may come back to haunt them.

So that 1/4 scale Sauron Statue I got for $300 in 2005 was a small inexpensive statue then? Cause it had an ES of 9,500.

There was also the Morgul Lord I paid $200 for with an ES of 9,500 in 2005.

Edit: Beaten to it. Should have looked at the next page of posts :rotfl

Yeah, and these smaller Weta statues are still selling for at least double what they retailed for.

Are they cheapening the quality? Everything I've seen seems quite good.

Now I do agree that at their current going price there isn't enough QC measures. Is that what you mean?

I think it depends on the piece. The Storm Shadow EX is limited to 350 and has been sold out for months. Granted, it was several years ago, but the TMNT were limited to 400-500 and even the regular versions go for about double retail on the secondary market.

For the record, I am in favor of lower edition sizes overall. However, I realize that SSC is a business and is in business to make a profit. That is just a fact.

The thing that kind of irks me is your constant hammering of the Joker PF and it's aftermarket value. Let's set the record straight. EVERY EX that has sold on eBay since March has sold for over retail. I know that you are usually referring to the REG Joker PF as selling below retail so let's look at the sold listings of the REG since March. Here they are.

May 17th: 2 Listings for $439 & $489
May 15th: $305 (no art box, no shipping box)
May 2nd: $285 (seller does not list whether he has art box or not)
April 12th: $305
April 7th: $350
April 2nd: $450
March 30th: $375
March 21st: 2 listings at $410 and $412
March 18th: $440

So according to the sold listings there were 3 out of 11 listings that went below retail. Of those 3 we know that one did not have an art box and one did not list whether there is an art box or not. Since March 18th, on average, the REG Joker PF has been selling for $387. That price does not include shipping. Last time I checked, the Joker PF sold for $350 at retail. I'm not saying you can't score a REG under retail. What I am saying is that on average, most peeps have not.

Let us also not forget that this piece has only been released for less than a year now. How many REGs of any statue can you say has skyrocketed in value a year after release? As a matter of fact, most REGs of any character can be had at or around retail within a year of its release. The Joker REG PF is simply following the usual pattern of most of SSC's REG releases. Nothing unusual or worth noting with the aftermarket value of the Joker PF. It will certainly require some more time to see if SSC has over saturated the market. It's far too soon to draw any conclusions of the aftermarket value of the REG Joker PF. As of right now though, the Joker PF is hardly going for peanuts in the aftermarket.

Flip, I've told him this multiple times and he still repeats the same untrue crap every time. I understand that some people care about ES and all that but this guy just keeps posting things that aren't true to try and validate a point he doesn't really have.

As a matter of fact. I think I'm done with him.

Agreed, I told him in another thread the same thing..... it does not good.:slap

MM and CBG are like broken records on THIS ONE argument ... and they go over and over the same BS argument. In the end it is useless to debate them because they INSIST they are RIGHT now matter HOW MUCH EVIDENCE you provide that proves that their argument is BULL****!!!!
