It was another great scene for that actor as well - we have our new action movie hero, thank you very much! I don't know how well he can pull off modern regular guy, but he's going to nail Conan. I just hope the movie itself is good enough to show off his ability to act.

He pulled of regular tough guy in North Shore pretty well. Albeit a bit too pretty. When they first announced him as Conan I was like not a chance.

I have since changed my mind. :rock

Uh, that wasn't a random white guy - that was Hodor. And the point was that she said he had giant blood in him, and she would know. In the book she had a longer discussion about giants taking humans as mates and creating people like Hodor, but it didn't make the cut.

As soon as I finish the last book in the Hunger Games triology I'm starting this series. :rock

This is an extremely well adapted series, capturing everything it needs to from the books, and making smart alterations to make it better on the screen. For example, the wound on Drogo's chest. In the books, we don't see him receive it, it is just something that happens as part of the little battle at that village. The show gives us a much more dramatic version, and further cements just what a bad ass the Khal really is.

Books and film of any kind are never going to be exactly the same - the mediums require different things. But this is about as close of an adaptation as I've ever seen.

And don't the Hunger Games kick some serious ass? I still think Jennifer Lawrence is too old for Katniss, but I'm willing to give her a chance.

I'm not sure what that means. All I know is that a naked white guy shows up, she says he probably has giant blood in him (he was rather well endowed) and then she started talking about how there are giants and stuff on the other side of the wall.

Still don't know who the guy is or the significance of him showing up.

I just figured it was a gratuitous nude scene. The shows on pay cable seem to feel it's imperative to have nudity or sex scenes (almost always gratuitous) in every episode or people will think they're not getting their money's worth.

Last night's episode left me wanting so much more. The Drago and Syrio scenes were both great. I'm sorry we won't see more of Syrio (I assume).

Good episode last night, but after the awesomeness that was episode 7, I felt a bit let down.

Only two more episodes left this season. :monkey2

He's Hodor - the guys been in the last 3 episodes. He carries Bran around, how else did bran get to the godswood?

The point was simply to discuss giants existence so when they pop up next season, you won't be surprised.and the scene wasn't added to be gratuitous, since it was straight out of the book.

Fair enough, but for someone not familiar with the book, the way it was shot and the seeming randomness of it made it feel that way.

Khal Drogo...

FATALITY!!!

He's definitely my new favorite now!

I know what you mean. His character arc from episode 1 onward has been building and building until we got his speech to attack Westeros last Sunday and that great, bloody scene last night.
I just love watching a tv show where a character slits open a dude's throat and then shoves his hand into that dude's neck going straight up into his mouth and pulling out the dude's tongue. Good times.
Good times. But seriously, Jason Mamoa's presence on screen is top notch and I take back everything I said about him in Conan. I'm all aboard for Conan after last night.

Last episode was very good. They really covered quite a bit. I was somewhat happy that this episode didn't end with a cliffhanger. The next episodes are gonna be really intense so it was nice to have an episode who just built up what will happen next.

I'm not going to outright spoil it, but I'm going to say enough that it could spoil it, so definitely don't read the spoiler tagged text unless you have read the books...

Obviouisly, we get one of the two big deaths in this week's episode. I'm really hoping they don't hold it til the end of the episode though - I think making it a cliff hanger til next week would put the wrong emphasis on it. They've done a great job over the last few weeks of bringing other characters forward and making them more prominent, and if they do the death in the first half hour, I think it will set the tone more appropriately, and less non-reading fans will freak out.

^^^
The viewers who have not read the books will freak out no matter what when all the deaths from Book 1 occur. I plan on not visiting this thread for awhile after the last ep airs.

Just started watching this series last night with my wife. Cool to finally see something worth watching on TV. It's like ROME mixed with LOTR mixed with Conan. Good stuff.
