Good News! Game of thrones had its highest ratings yet this past weekend! Rumor has it that the show runners will ask HBO to greenlight both season 3 & 4 at the same time.

Thank you for no spoilers...but as long as they are in the spoiler tag, that's fine. I'll just make sure I won't read them. :)

I re-watched episode 1 last night and had a quick question concerning the attempted poisoning of Melisandre (spelling?) by Stanis’ Maester. It showed the Maester putting something in his goblet / chalice and offering a drink to Melisandre. Since he put the poison in the win, he clearly knew it was poisoned, but he drank anyway. Was this a Princess Bride type situation where the Maester believed that he was either immune to the poison or had an antidote?

I believe he knew he would die, but his plan was to either take her with him, or to make it look like she killed him.

I don't recall the specifics from the book, but I don't recall any mention or plan of an antidote.

Interesting...that didn't even cross my mind. The Maester was so set on preventing Stanis from following Melisandre's counsel that he was willing to sacrifice himself. Stavros' comment of "Don't..." makes more sense, in that context.

Yeah, he knew he would die, the thing was that she was supposed to die as well, and she didn't (notice the ruby on her throat glowing)

Damn, I did not notice that. Will have to re-watch for a third time!

Thanks, so many new characters, hard to remember names. The younger one who was reading the letter to Stanis, is that Davos' son?

Been working through the blu-rays and commentaries - the 3rd episode with the Stark kids is just great. They are obviously very into the story and characters and are really smart. They go on about trying to analyze what Sean Bean does that make him a great actor but don't come to any conclusions, but it's cool to see they're trying to improve in the craft. Also poor Brand is always "I wasn't there" or "I never met him" when the girls are talking about a location or actor - poor guy was laid up in the bed.

Very impressed with this blu-ray collection so far, just from the commentaries.

I haven't read the books, but I hope that somebody sets him on fire. Soon.

I wish Batman would have let him die.

The second episode has leaked online, for those willing to go find it. I will say it ended on a cliffhanger and now I'm pissed that I have to wait a week and a half for episode three!

I am currently reading the second book.

I am curious how the show is going to address...
All of the dark magic. First Renlys death and I just finished reading where Melisandre gave birth to a shadow!! Crazy stuff!!

It looks like they'll have it in there, from the trailers there's a shot of Mellisandre where she looks like she's giving birth.

Thankfully they have bigger budgets this year - which they'd have to with all the
dragon shots they'll need. Plus a huge battle.

Considering Daenerys is barely in Book 2, it will be interesting to see if they include story elements from Book 3 or make stuff up in order to pad out her airtime.
