I would've liked the new boy to have a different 'power' than one we've already seen though.

I have to think there's a reason (if only thematic) why he has the same power as Nathan (her biological father). Then again, he could have more than one.

Besides, he's a dweeby peeping-tom stalker anyway. ;)

Well really how many powers can you think up that can be done on budget and not seem foolish? Also.. most powers serve to advance the plot in some way shape or form. My only complaint bout Claire's new interest is he seems very stalkerish. But hey, what was with Nathan's face in the mirror? Is there a possibility of secondary powers or something?

I liked tonights episode... but hoping for it to pick up a bit more as we move along. Some of the high school stuff seemed a little over-the-top, but not too out of place with the feel of the show.

Can't wait for next weeks episode, or to see 3 Nissan Rogue commecials back-to-back again :monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, they say that "the unspoken fan question 'What's Heroes going to do when they run out of cool powers?' will be addressed in the show itself. 'The question presumes that there can't be a duplication of powers,' teases Kring. 'But what if there was a finite pool of adaptations? What if there are other people in other parts of the world breaking out with similar abilities?'" I love it when the writers address the problematic elements of fantastic story telling and turn them into strengths. This show has done a very good job laying the ground work for a "big picture" story while concentrating on really engaging small story and character arcs. Between Sylar devouring powers in season 1 and this new hooded killer, I'm getting a nice Watchmen Lite vibe from this show. I didn't expect the English Kensai but it makes sense that they didn't want the entirety of Hiro's samurai story to be subtitled. Seems even more likely that Hiro will masquerade as Kensai and get the swordsmith's daughter. I liked this season opener a lot and can't wait to see where they take us the sophomore year.

Don't knock it :lol thats how we get less overall commercials and more story time.

I agree... and I'm fine with that. But seriously the same (basically) commercial 3 times in a row?!? C'mon with the creativity guys... besides Claire driving one I'm not interested yet.

I just wonder how they'll work in a reference to it in Feudal Japan?!?

Interesting that DC is publishing the graphic novels while the show is ripping off a Marvel storyline (Legacy Virus).

Nah.

Again, DC is most likely publishing the graphic novel because of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale.

And the show isn't a "rip off" of any one thing, but indeed owes a lot to many different comic incarnations: Watchmen (DC), Rising Stars (Image), X-Men (Marvel), etc. That's one of the things I really like about it actually. It's obvious that the writers are paying homage to the comics medium with HEROES while making it a mainstream prime time soap opera on the surface.

There is a difference between a homage to many comics and blatantly ripping off a singular storyline though. A virus that only affects the people with powers and the concern that it will mutate and affect normal people...which story am I talking about, the Virus in Heroes or the Legacy Virus in the Marvel Universe? They are the same story so far but only the comic fans will know that of course. A homage to me should be much more subtle reference like Kirby Plaza and showing the Silver Surfer comic or naming characters after comic creators like in the first season.

I am sure there will be a few different twists and turns but so far it looks and sounds like a pretty direct lifting of a story that has already been done albeit in a different format and with different characters. I just would like to see something new and creative with these characters than having to use another story that has already been told. That is not a homage but lazy storytelling.

I thought tonight's episode was just alright. Even Hiro's scenes were pretty blah, and he's usually comedy gold. After that dud of a finale last season I was hoping this episode would suck me back in and get excited about the show again, but... I'm sure it'll get better.

Wasn't the Legacy virus man made though? I believe, if the virus is what killed Shanti, the virus is a natural thing attacking those with powers. Similar basis but different execution.

I've always thought of the show as a thinly veiled X-men rip-off (a well executed rip-off mind you), so the Legacy Virus thing didn't surprise me at all.

Tim Kring actually talked a bit about some of his ideas for heroes in an interview I read earlier this year and Rising Stars by JMS was a comic he had some knowledge of, but he has said time and time again, he is not a comic guy, but some of the other writers of the show obviously are like Loeb.

Jeph Loeb is also with Marvel as a writer and creative director, Tim Sale is under contract with DC. One of the rumors at the Comic Con about DC getting the Heroes Graphic Novel, was that the contract wasnt the best out there and NBC really wasnt giving much in the way of money, so DC won out over Marvel... Most were really surprised since Loeb is part of the show and a creative director at Marvel.

ps Tonights show was pretty decent, really was interested what happened to Peter and would love to know who the guy in the hoodie was...

Yeah shorthaired Peter in the shipping container with the mysterious pendant necklace was cool as was Nathan's scarred reflection. Wait till ep 5 for the unmasking, er de-hooding of the guy... or gal.

I enjoyed the episode. I think we're going to have another good season, even if it does have to do with a story line very similar to X-Men. In the latest TPB of Ultimate Spider-Man someone (I can't remember who) writes the forward or introduction or whatever it is called and says that there are no original stories anymore, everything is a retelling of something else and its been that way for centuries. What makes them so great is the different ways to tell the story and the little changes people make to it making it unique. I'm inclined to agree with him so I'm excited to see where they go with this.

Last night's episode was brought to us in part by Nissan. Which is the only explenation for why a 16 year-old girl would get so excited at getting that POS car in act one.
