Can I call you a giant douche anyway? :monkey1

I don't blame Sideshow for putting these up for grabs the way they did, but I do believe it would've been more fair to offer them to the people who were on the Wait List first. If it was already closed, then I guess it was just a lousy break for the WL folks, and they have my sympathy, but I don't believe Sideshow intended to snub anyone here. Just my two cents.

I was on the wait list for most if not all the marines and i believe they had already closed all of them. Personally don't think they did anything wrong with putting them up for second chance. The only thing I'd have done differently is impose a limit of one per. If for some reason the next day they still had some left they could have dropped the limit.

I feel bad for those that don't have them and really wanted them because I would venture that a decent amount of those bought last night will end up on the bay for much higher prices.

Yeah, I don't think it would've hurt to drop the limit to one per customer, in light of the demand for these now, but I guess they didn't want to mess with it. For what it's worth, If I'd managed to score a couple more of these I would be offering them to my fellow Aliens Freaks right now... for extremely reasonable prices, but I suppose it just depends on the circumstances, and I don't blame anyone lucky enough to pick up one or more of these who chooses to capitalize on their good fortune. Just wish some of the Aliens Freaks who are still without Hicks or Apone had gotten theirs too!

These threads are what make me never feel bad for "true collectors." Whenever you miss something, you whine, whine, whine. I missed these. You don't see me whining about how much I could have made off these. I scrolled right past it and am laughing about it. You win some, you lose some. I do agree that those on the wait list do have a gripe. I think Sideshow should just leave their waitlists open, or if it is something that they know they probably won't ever get back in stock, keep maybe the first 10-20 wait list reservations active just in case.

well said bro. I totally agree. The ONLY time i have been pissed off about missing a stupid toy is the Retro Spidey PF, and that was only because of the circumstances. However, I swore to myself never to get affected like that again because it is truly disgusting when you look back and think about getting up in arms over a collectible.

Getting angry over a deformity is much more meaningful. I mean what if you had a tail and 4 nipples? Damn, that would make me upset. :emperor:lol

Pfft. I'm sure that Sideshow KNOWS how hot these items are.
I'm sure that they also KNOW that there have been people on the wait-list like forever. I'm also sure that Sideshow knows that these items would've gotten hoarded like there's no tomorrow.

And still they ignore all of the above.
It's not like I want one of these figs. I already have ALL of the Marines.
And it's not whining like some of you call it. It's expressing one's frustrations that after such a long time Sideshow goes and sells these figures like they did. Those on the (ex)wait-list got the shaft. So of course they're pissed.

If they put a limit of 1 on the items (and don't start that, "they never did it before so why start now" thing. That's how businesses expand... through change) at least some of the waitlisters would have gotten a slightly better chance of finally owning one.

If you can't see why people feel cheated, then it's no use.

Again, congrats to those who scored them, and sorry to those that didn't.
I don't feel anyone here did wrong except for Sideshow.

First of all, these are not exclusives so why would there be a limit of 1?

Secondly, Sideshow doesn't alter their product pages to reflect the secondary market. IMO if they should have changed their already stated limit of 2 which has been on the website for over 2 years, then they should have raised the selling price to reflect the secondary market as well.

Thirdly, would it make you really feel better to miss out on this even if it was limit of 1?

I'm not sure anyone'll believe this, but could it be possible that, in fact, we DIDN'T know? That it's really NOT some conspiracy to try to get people mad at us (why would we want people mad at us anyway??) The limit has always been 2, it's not an Exclusive item, why would we even think to change it after years of it being that way?

The only thing I remember about Hicks is a lot of complaining when Hot Toys first released the figure (I believe it was at Comic-Con one year?) that it didn't look anything like the character. After that brouhaha, I don't recall much one way or the other about him

Remember, even though we have a high-traffic website, that doesn't mean we are a huge corporation, and we don't have someone constantly monitoring ALL message board chatter and ALL eBay auctions. We do what we can when stuff turns up like this - either we offer them on a first come, first served basis after Wait Lists have been canceled (in this case, that was MONTHS ago, without knowing any would turn up again), OR we give them away. Unfortunately we don't have a crystal ball to tell if an item is ever gonna turn up somewhere in the future.

In the Wait List department, we're darned if we do, darned if we don't. Half of people call out for us to close them down when we're pretty sure we'll never get any of the items again. Half call out to leave them open forever. Maybe someone should start a Freaks poll about that ;)

And in closing, as far as I know, that eBay seller (newyork_estate_brokers) is in no way officially affiliated with Sideshow - he's just seller that happens to deal in a lot of Sideshow items, is my best guess. Not sure if we could do anything, as the word 'sideshow' is not trademarked. Now if it was 'Sideshow Collectibles Outlet' maybe...

Again though, continue with the conspiracy theories... what else would people post on message boards if not that ;) :duff

Well I guess if you had no idea of the demand for these figures, then it couldn't be helped. In short, Hicks has (for reasons that are a little mysterious) absolutely gone through the roof in terms of resale value in the last few months, with at least one auction going for $2000 and another for around $1200. Those were abnormally high, but it's still a figure that gets around $400-$500 minimum, and probably more. And while Apone is not as popular, the demand for the Aliens marines in general is very high so I've seen him going for around $300. For people like me who got into the line late, it seemed almost impossible to get a Hicks figure, so you might see why this was doubly frustrating.

Why a maximum of 2 ?

Why was that policy instigated ?

Why not 1 ?

If your doing limited runs of figures, why make a policy that potentially halves the the amount being spread about

If youve got 1976 figures

Your potentially just selling them to 988 purchasers leaving 988 collectors out !

WOOOOOooAAaaaahhhh... for reals? Someone paid $2000 for a 12-inch figure/model kit  :medic

Honestly, no idea. I guess we should lurk in the Aliens threads more often :lurking

And those calling for a re-release... could you imagine the backlash on Hot Toys if they did that? I'm sure they had no idea how popular these would be back with they first started releasing them, especially after all the chatter about how horrible they looked when the prototypes were shown. The world of collectibles is sometimes a very fickle world - but take heart, we're all in it and learning it together as we go :grouphug
