I have seen that as well. How the hell Tony caught up to to the helmet while jumping out of the plane is beyond me.

Yup, saw it @ the trailer too but I guess they changed it in the movie and instead Tony simply jumped on the plane w/ all the gear on.

The scene is on the bluray but in the deleted scenes section. I was really curious too why they changed it. However if you watch it and have the director's commentary on while doing so, he explains why he changed it and it does kind of make sense.

What was the reason? The control was through the helmet? And Tony would not be able to activate the thrusters if he's not wearing it?

We've seen tons of movies people jumping off planes into another airborne plane in a more realistic tone of movie.

Tony could have dived for the helmet,catch and wear it in mid air then activate his thrusters. That would be an awesome start of the movie.
