Re: Hot Toys-MMS-The Avengers:Black Widow
Like most of the Avengers portrait faces' the v1 BW was ok, but wasn't perfect. I hope they improve on this for the v2 and sculpted hair was a positive first step, though I can see that the idea behind the v1's rooted hair was - at least on paper - a great idea...more realism.
As for the terminology of 'action figures Vs dolls' even as a boy, if it was from the comics, TV or movies it did not bother me if the character was female. I was then and still am waiting for a - hopefully HOT TOYS - Lynda Carter version of WONDER WOMAN, but back then I would have been perfectly happy with a MEGO. She would have fitted right in with my BATMAN and SUPERMAN. I have never really actually called them 'action figures' anyway. I have always called them just 'figures'. No real reason, it's just a personal habit off mine that has developed over my life. They are dolls, yes of course they are, I don't call them that either, but people use that phrase and it does not bother me one way or the other.
For years as a boy I was after a BIONIC WOMAN figure to go with my Col. Austin and Maskatron figures and I would have not batted an eyelid. On reflection, I have a good few 1/6 scale female figures from the likes of Dr. Who, Buffy-TVS and James Bond and I did not hesitate in getting them.
It's all rather quaintly funny really because I would never have played with my sister's regular BARBIE dolls. To me at that age, that would have been 'girly'...something of a personal contradiction
