Oh boy, I see where this thread is going..... :nana:

For the record, I like the BW toy the way it is. And mine will be keeping her clothes on too. :monkey3

Would make comparing the likeness to the source material difficult.

Why, I think like every Marvel celeb ever has posed naked at some point. Halle, Anna Paquin, Gwyneth, Jessica Beil, Alba, Scarlett, Kirsten Dunst, even that ugly russian girl from SM3 was naked on Hung. :lol

Plus DC, Katie Holmes, Maggie, Kate Bosworth, Malin, Hathaway, hell it may as well be a prerequisite to being in a Superhero movie.

I like the idea of swap-out hair for those who want an option. Or maybe 2 sculpts, well essentially the same sculpt, but one with rooted hair and one with sculpted. Allow the collector the option of displaying the one they'd prefer. :hi5:

Sure that would be an ideal option, but I already suggested the possible cause: Scarlett Johansson herself requesting doll hair on the figure. It is not as if Hot Toys has unilateral scope with these decisions.

Girls grow up playing with dolls that rarely have sculpted hair. I think there is a high probability of a woman expecting and thus requesting that feature on a doll of a character she portrays. Add to that the fact that A list actresses probably tend to get what they want.

Somehow, I just don't think ScarJo even knows what HT is, much less trying to influence their decisions on her likeness. I'm sure she's got business handlers for that crap anyway and they're just worried about how much the royalty check is. :dunno

I'm expecting there will be lots of futzing of the hair to make it look just right.

Will be interesting to see if the spacing area around the head area within the plastic tray will be more "free" to ensure that the hair doesn't arrive too deformed. Many of us will be doing research from doll forums to see how to style rooted hair. :lol

That is a common stereotype of Hollywood actresses of course, but it does not reasonably explain the situation.

Hot Toys said the hair would be sculpted, which I think clearly signals what they preferred. They cannot possibly be unaware that certain male collectors absolutely hate doll hair and that using it will have a net negative impact on sales.

That suggests that someone on the licensor side of the decision making requested doll hair and Hot Toys had no choice but to comply. The simplest explanation is that ScarJo herself or a woman close to her made the request.

Edit: I would also add we know from Hot Toys past comments that the actors themselves do comment on or approve the sculpts at times.

Re: Hot Toys-MMS-The Avengers:Black Widow

Widow is the make or break for me in committing to buy the entire team. I'm pretty confident the rest of the team will look great. But HT has yet to demonstrate to me they can make a realistic female likeness to date.

If they get her right, I will pre-order all the figures on the spot.

5 days ago I posted this. So I must keep true to my word. :monkey1 :)

Finally someone else thinks this too! This is exactly what I've been saying about why this could've change from sculpted to rooted hair. Licensor most likely wanted rooted hair. Could've been ScarJo herself, we don't know. It's not that far fetched to think she'd have some input on this just b/c she's a hollywood actress and a beautiful one at that. Hell, Amanda Seyfried has a growing taxidermy collection, which IMO is creepier than collecting 1/6 scale figures

You know how girls feel about things like their hair. It is perfectly reasonable to imagine an actress seeing a prototype (which I'm sure at some point they all see) and then throwing a huge fit about that goddamned BS plastic helmet hair.

But I don't mind, I will brush her hair for her if that's what's required of me.

This is what they said in the interview:

3Q: Another problem is to ask the Black Widow, before Iron Man 2 has a Ver 1 launched this Ver 2 will deal with and what is the difference? Head carving is still a hair treatment?

H: Ver the Body is the new production, first of all different heights, the new BODY body height with reference to the characteristics of the female angle, so it is Ver 1 petite, I hope as far as possible with enough film roles height ratio, high and short, such as Thor and Captain America has a different height, but Thor will even do a few big only the Black Widow in many Hero petite. Other hair, began as a plan hair, but want to play about carving hair interchangeably, but in the end Yulli objected, that the result is not very good, I also try to understand, but eventually accepted and respect Yulli views figure will be carved hair model launched in the hair care of another fact too much trouble, pick up the general guests will feel not the United States, need to refresh the hair, we can not use Gel and spray treatment, because will be product safety considerations.

Ultimately Marvel has final approval over everything. Im not sure the actors can decide what materials they use. I really like the way the hair looks in the official pics but we'll see how final product turns out
