Ultimately Marvel has final approval over everything. Im not sure the actors can decide what materials they use. I really like the way the hair looks in the official pics but we'll see how final product turns out

Well if Tom Hiddleston can deny a likeness approval (as we were told by HT), then I am pretty sure ScarJo can do that and probably more. Besides the hair issue can easily be read as one of likeness not "materials". The doll hair looks more realistic when done well to many people (myself included). Add in that doll hair is what the vast majority of women expect on a doll and you have a reason for an actress (or her underlings) to make that request.

That's great and all, but once the figure gets in-hand, and it doesn't look like the prototype does, and the color is wrong ( again) I think many people will change their tunes.

And It's NOT going to look like the prototype once people get her in hand. Yes, babydoll looks pretty good. but her style is two pigtails, and straight hair. it's kinda hard to screw that up. Widow's hair has a distinctive look and style. and it's going to be close to impossible to make it look like that after being packed in a box for 8+ weeks. For that matter, if you look at the pictures of it in the case at toy hunters, her hair is ALREADY starting to frizz a little, and come out of the styling.

Sokay. Perhaps we will get swappable hair, perhaps not. if not, perhaps a sculptor can be commissioned to MAKEa sculpted wig for her.
At the very least, the doll hair is already on a "wig" that is already removable from the head. so Sculpting a plastic " wig" is not going to be TOOO hard.

Still, the simple fact that I'm even contemplating having to do this is, in my opinion, pretty piss poor for a nearly 200$ collectable.

Tom delayed the approval of the head sculpt.... that leads to the cancellation of Thor's version for Avenger's version

Story goes that Hiddleston vetoed the planned Loki from the Thor line, and that's why his Avengers fig is so damn good. Not seen the IV in which this was said though...

Yet he approved the Avengers version straight away. Guess he didn't like the first sculpt.:dunno

it is assumed the approved HS was used directly for Avengers's version instead of Thor's....

HT may want to release just 1 Loki and Avenger's maybe the better option.

HT have used the same HS accross different movies. Mk. 4 in IM2 and Mk. 6 in Avenger's are the same...

I do appreciate your perspective. Personally I am willing to futz the hair and as a woman that has a happy, nostalgic feel to it for me. I fully realise that is not to everyone's liking to say the least.

As I mentioned yesterday, Tonner, Mattel and others can make doll hair stay in place for years on end, in far more elabourate hairstyles. Hot Toys is not using enough product on the hair when it ships for the vague "product safety" reason mentioned in the interview (that phrase probably has a better translation). In any case, their heart is clearly not in the rooted doll hair either or they would find a way to make it work.

Female figure already appear to sell at lower numbers than male characters, so why would Hot Toys deliberately add a feature that will cost them even more sales? Even if the real hair attracts a few collectors who would otherwise have no interest, I find it impossible to believe that it could make up for the lost sales among the core male demographic here.

The person who made the decision/request to use rooted doll hair was a stakeholder clearly with no interest in sales volume, merely the doll's appearance.

edit:
Did I miss something here? Isn't the Loki sculpt pretty much spot on...

Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the "Thor" version of Loki that was shown in their catalogue but never revealed.

I for one am known to be a hash critic. Some even see me as a complainer. But I'm sorry if you guys don't think this looks EXACTLY like her you are literally insane! I just don't get this nitpicking. Even her body looks quite accurate I think. Plus it's a lame character from an eventually forgettable movie. I don't get the backlash. Even I am getting it and that says something. I despised iron man 2 and thought avengers was a disaster.

Interesting. I guess if he wants his likeness done, it is to be done right! I'm okay with it.

looking great, one thing this pics shows is that the hair seems lighter in color than Widow's in the movie

^limited 16 pepsi release.....& Mark I 2.0

I hadn't heard of that Pepsi release, but yeah if you count all the secret project and silly thing limited runs there's a fair amount of reuse. Is the Mk I 2.0 really using the same HS from the Mech Test? I thought it was a new sculpt? Isn't it embedded in the helmet?

Could this BW figure be the first to break that 'Men would not buy it' precedent? AVENGERS has massive appeal.

I am always sceptical about this type of thing because with the best will in the world, it may be a case of Chinese Whispers and serious collectors passing on some sad fanboy's wank-dream. It's where the 'facts' get ever so slightly less tangible, I think. Was this ever confirmed by anybody? I know someone was going to ask TH on his Twitter feed, but did they ever get a reply? I don't recall reading about it if they did. Did HT ever say this directly? As far as I recall, they just said that the THOR version was cancelled in favour of the AVENGERS version.

We all know that it is possible to take very limited information and theorise with it. Sometimes it will be 100% correct...and sometimes you will add 2+2 and get 5, so I am not casting doubt on anyone's honesty.

Definitely. Even with sales loss due to the rooted hair, I would be stunned if this were not their biggest selling female character ever. Likewise I would predict that the Iron Man 2 version is their best selling female character to date, given the relative popularity of the licence and actress. I was always curious though just how well Jill Valentine sold, since they did feel she merited two releases. Also I wonder if Black Widow can outsell any male Avengers release.

I can't wait for this figure, was always going to buy it as it completes my Avengers team and I think that will be the same for quite a few people, it's a must buy to have the complete team!
