Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Sick of hearing about a DX Bane. Joker is iconic, Batman is iconic. If you think Batman, you think Joker; Not Bane. They'd have to really stretch the term iconic to add Bane into the DX line. Bane has only been around since the 90's, Joker has been since 40's

Exactly, I've even read that because they'll be a DX Catwoman and Penguin for the Returns license that that mocks the iconic character argument and yet what those people fail to realise is Returns is a 20 year old film and thus Pfeiffer and Devito's interpretations of those characters are iconic

:lol an argument that batfan08 has just tried to use :slap

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Another thing that gets me is people are saying they'll be a DX Bane if that's the case then why not more calls for a DX Catwoman?

One final note on the DX line and where it relates to Batman is the releases have always been released in pairs;

DX01 Joker
DX02 Batman
DX08 Joker
DX09 Batman
DX11 Joker
DX12 Batman

What are they going to do release Bane on his own?

DX14 Marty Mcfly
DX15 Bane
DX16 Han Solo

Not very likely is it :dunno

That whole list is wrong. DX 14 will most likely be a Returns Batman.

When I think Penguin, I think Burgess Meredith.:dunno

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

While I honestly preferred Returns between the two Burton films I'm not gonna lie, I actually think that Penguin wasn't iconic...:dunno

In this regard, I actually consider Hardy's Bane and Hathaway's Catwoman on the same league as Pfeiffer's Catwoman and Devito's Penguin. All four were brilliant, but not up to the same level of iconic as Nicholson and Ledger's Joker. That said, I could be proven wrong if the latter two get the DX treatment (Penguin and Pfeiffer's Catwoman I mean), which would completely throw off my argument. :lol

It wouldn't be stupid, though; since you want to get all technical about different interpretations, then Bane is even more deserving of a DX than Penguin. That character played a more pivotal part in Batman's mythology in the first year of his existence than Penguin did in fifty. Bane is the man who did the impossible; he broke the Bat. The Penguin? He's a short fat man who uses gimmicky umbrellas to try to get away with being a second class con.

Naturally, HT don't do comic figures, and I certainly wouldn't want them to create something based on the abomination from Batman and Robin, so, how else will this iconic character get his due?

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

There have been 6 Batman DX figures. 3 Batmans, and 3 Jokers. Regardless of whether or not any of us think Bane is or isn't iconic, common sense would stand to reason that there will be no Bane DX. The badies of the Nolanverse.

Batman Begins

Ra's - no figures
Scarecrow - 1 MMS figure ( and not even with a HS of crane )

Dark Knight

Joker - 4 figures ( MMS, Bank Robber, Cop DX, 2.0 DX )
Two Face - 1 MMS figure

DK Rises

Bane - 1 MMS figure
Catwoman - 1 MMS figure

Sorry. IMO, there won't be any more DX Nolanverse Batman figures.

( unless they make a Joker 3.0 )

I agree with you, and that's my point. If Penguin can be a DX, so can Bane.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

He didn't wear it for practically the entire first half of the film at all, he wasn't wearing it in the plane scene at the start of the film, he wasn't wearing it when Gordan was taken hostage in the sewers and finally he wasn't wearing it in the first fight with Batman.

The first time he was seen wearing it was when they went to the Stock Exchange, he's then still wearing it very briefly as Bats and Catwoman escape Daggett's troops and then when he kills Daggett and then finally in the permission to die scene. In terms of screen time that equals about 25 minutes at the most

He also wears it during the scene where they take the board members hostage, when they blow through the wall to get to the bomb and during the actual bomb arming sequence, it's one of his main outfits during the film, there's no question. Hell, even his character poster has the jacket.

It's even on the freaking BOX of the figure it self! Yet it's not included... :gah:

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Though, to be fair, I wouldn't even want a DX Bane if this one weren't such a disappointment.

I'd say that's only relative to how fresh in the memory TDKR is, lets see if it stands the test of time like Returns has, wouldn't surprise me if in 20 years time people struggle to even remember the name Tom Hardy

Also it's not just the character it's the actor's interpretation of the character

No, no it cant

tom hardy's a solid actor. i have a feeling he'll still be around.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

I think it's simply a case where Penguin is more iconic based on one specific reason: age and recognition.

The Burton films are treated as classics and the character interpretations are well-regarded enough to be considered as "iconic". The Nolan films are recent and as such, it's only the huge standout characters that people tend to take note of (i.e. Batman and Joker).

EDIT: Well I said "one specific reason", though I guess I actually said two if people want to nit-pick. :lol

Penguin is from an old, iconic movie. Bane is from a brand new movie that has already had it's batch of DX figures

The list was an off the cuff example of how stupid a DX Bane on his own would be :slap

It would work if we got a DX Moe and Larry. :lecture

Disagree. When you say spiderman you dont say green goblin.

Why the hell do so many comic books sell if there only is interest in one villain?

Bane BROKE the BAT. He's an icon in the bizz. Joker is cool but all he did was pummel a boy in tights that everybody hated anyway.
