Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Yes, yes it would.

You can keep saying it but it wont make it so :lecture

So far your only argument is that the character is iconic in the comics, given as you said Hot Toys dont cater for the comic universe you've failed to put forward one worthwhile reason how Tom Hardy's Bane compares with Devito's Penguin

Going back to this comment that I didn't see previously...

Naturally, HT don't do comic figures, and I certainly wouldn't want them to create something based on the abomination from Batman and Robin, so, how else will this iconic character get his due?

He wont, get over it

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Bane BROKE the BAT. He's an icon in the bizz. Joker is cool but all he did was pummel a boy in tights that everybody hated anyway.

they are both important villains in the batman mythos, but there's no point underplaying joker's significance; he is the seminal villain not only in batman's world, but in the world of comics in general ~ by which i mean he's instantly recognizable and typically tops every list of villains out there.

i ain't arguing the dx or not thing because that's a pointless argument, but it is very clear why joker may have more "pull" in the marketing world than bane.

Favourite scenes

1. Interrogation scene
2. Training on the Ice 'the will to act'
3. The climb
4. Bane Batman first fight
5. TDKR ending montage
6. TDK two face showdown

As much as I loved Ledger, playing arkham city reminded me of how the Joker should be. Can't wait for someone to play the Joker as well as Mark Hamill voiced him.

Ledger played an extremely cool villain, but he wasnt the Joker for me, not ICONIC as been named so often in this thread.

Nolan's Bane was more in line with Comic Bane than Ledger's Joker was with Comic Joker. IMO.

Best scene from the Nolan films has to be Joker falling to his death laughing. That was the only moment I truly fell like I was watching a comic book villain!

Disagree. When you say spiderman you dont say green goblin.

When you think Superman you think Lex Luthor though
When you think X-Men you think Magneto
When you think Captain America you think Red Skull
and yes when you think Batman you think Joker

Dont even try to suggest Bane is as well known in the mainstream as the Joker

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

My point is that Devito's penguin isn't particularly iconic either; no more than Hardy's Bane. That wasn't my only argument, either; it was simply an observation regarding how Bane has played a more pivotal role in the Batman mythos in twenty years than Penguin has in fifty, and that wasn't aimed at you, that was aimed at the people saying that Bane's not "iconic" because he's only two decades old.

The truth is that you can't accurately judge how iconic Bane will be, and, to be fair, neither can I, because the film hasn't been around for twenty years yet, but my point is that, when you let all of the nostalgia and "age" BS out of your head, Devito's Penguin is no more iconic than Hardy's Bane. As a character, I'm saying.

Disagree. When you say spiderman you dont say green goblin.

Why the hell do so many comic books sell if there only is interest in one villain?

When I hear Spiderman I think Green Goblin... So... Yeah, I disagree with you completely.

And if you're trying to say Bane is bigger than Joker.... :monkey1

Bane isn't as well known as The Joker...

but neither is Oswald Cobblepot.

Joker is the main villain of Batman, people who don't like Batman might not know who Bane is but they'll certainly know Joker.

To me, something iconic is usually something that you would know even if you didn't like it

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

I like the debate, for me I would buy a DX Bane before the Penguin any day. I can't see why Devito would get a DX and not Hardy.

Nostalgia is BS? Tell that to the billions of Star Wars fans :cuckoo:

If you want to have this discussion in 20 years time who knows maybe my opinion on Hardy's Bane will have changed but right now Devito's Penguin is more iconic than Hardy's Bane there's simply no denying that.

He's not bigger. He's smaller, but I think more people know Doc Oc than Goblin, and I'd say Venom is bigger than Goblin.

In the batman world, Bane would be Venom. The one who can stand toe-to-toe. Bane is an awesome villain, no matter how you look at it.

Saying only Joker deserves DX treatment because he's ICONIC is silly. Spiderman didn't even get a DX! :O

I will deny you that. Pfeiffer is iconic. DeVito isn't.

Not really, and the nostalgia is BS. Your reasoning is that Penguin is more iconic because the movie came out twenty years ago. This is me denying that. By that logic, you can say that Bane is more iconic because his film is fresher in the memories of audiences. You walk up to 50 people, of varying ages and backgrounds, and show them a picture of Bane and a picture of The Penguin side by side, the odds are even better that Bane is more recognizable, and thus, iconic, but you'll probably find that, if he isn't more recognizable, they'll be about equal.

You seem to be relying on the "mainstream audiences" to back up you claim that Devito's Penguin is more iconic than Hardy's Bane, and the very fact that they are "mainstream audiences" will betray your idea of what is "iconic."

again, it's a point of reference thing. venom barely makes the radar in my spidey-villain book.

if you were born post-1980, bane and venom might seem "big", but in the scope of the history of these characters, the green-goblin and the joker are by far more recognizable.

Bane may have proven himself a match for the Bat in he world of comics, but in overall BATMAN lore and history, he has no real pedigree when compared to the Penguin.

Also, once again the folks crying "foul" here seem to forget one other unmentioned aspect. This Catwoman and this Penguin was the first time we saw an alternative to the aforementioned Burgess Meredith version of the character...on the big screen to boot. Not true with Bane. That in itself is enough to carry significant weight. DX Penguin...for sure. DX Bane? Possible but unlikely.

Also, let's clear one point up once and for all. Bane is not the villain of the piece. Talia Al Gul is the villain. Bane is, once again, reduced to the role of henchman.

can we get a dx talia? might as well while we're dx-dreaming here.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Saying only Joker deserves DX treatment because he's ICONIC is silly.

People need to stop just looking at the character, while in this case yes Joker is obviously more well known, more iconic than Bane in Nolan's universe it's also Ledgers interpretation of Joker that's iconic. The film hadn't even been released and people were calling for him to get an oscar for the performance, has anything like that been said about Hardy and his interpretation of Bane? No.

Christ (not that this is even related to the above) Bane wasn't even the one pulling the strings in TDKR he was simply a gun for hire so in that respect puts Hardy's Bane more on the same level as Eckhart's Two Face (another figure that incidentally never got a DX figure)

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

I'd take a DX Two-Face before I'd want a DX Bane, Talia, Catwoman, or Penguin, for that matter. From a sheer technical standpoint, it would be something to behold; that eye rolling around on the scarred side of his face.
